archiea Posted March 24, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey gang, Been looking into this lens since its announcement. I have a 50 lux that shares its filter diameter (so I can share circular polarizers) and that nifty slide out hoodie. I prefer 28mm to 35mm on full frame, plus this gives me a near normal 44mm on an apc sensor. Curious of hearing back from those with BOTH safari and regular versions of this lens, as well as this who use them on other cameras like fuji and canon. thx! I love the 28 Cron and I bought the Safari. It looks great on black and Safari bodies. the slide out hood makes the lens even more compact. I am a huge fan of the safari 28. Get it! Al Brown Posted March 24, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2021 (edited) There are at least two threads on this forum regarding the Safari 28 cron and you can check the images on olive, black and chrome bodies there. My advice - GO FOR IT. I have the exact same dilemma, yet no pressure regarding the price hike in Europe. It costs 4300 euros with tax, but B2B can buy tax free so on average 20% less (tax varies from country to country). I still have not bought it because I absolutely cannot decide between this lens and 24 lux. Edited March 24, 2021 by Al Brown

ERA23 Posted March 24, 2021 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2021 So a few months ago i went to the Leica store to purchase the 28 safari. As I have the Safari M10-p with the 50mm safari, i thought that it would be a perfect addition. As i already had the 28mm cron asph v1 i thought that it was a small upgrade but one that would be worth doing (confort/quality) BUT when i finally mounted it i was horrified. The aperture ring was badly designed and is to think, so when you i tried to focus the lens, it would either bother me or move the aperture ring. My advice is go try it it! If you like it buy it but i think the 28mm asph v2 is much more confortable but at the end of the day, if you like the look, just get it! (I personally go seduced by a 35 FLE chrome, which was right beside it, but that’s a story for another time)
caloosajo Posted March 25, 2021 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2021 Just purchased the 28mm Safari today. Turns out it is a stunner on my M10M and black paint MP, and the hype is real regarding its similar rendering with the 50 Lux. Neglible VF blockage whether hood is in or out (about as much as you’ll see with a 35 Cron ASPH v2 without hood). I was told that internally it’s been officially discontinued...maybe when they said 500, they meant 500 this time? I say do it!

Herr Barnack Posted March 25, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 25, 2021 Quote Should I get the Safari 28mm f2 summicron before the april 1st price hike? Yes, by all means. In fact, everyone should make it a point to buy one of each of the current M lenses before the April 1 increase. Just think of the money we'll save! 😊
Casey Jefferson Posted March 26, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 26, 2021 I wished they have a regular silver with the built in hood. Green lens isn't my cup of (green) tea...

archiea Posted April 7, 2021 Author Share #12 Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) Thx gang! I would post a photo with it on the camera, but it’s a fuji xt3...😱 performance is great. Initial operation was stiff compared to my 5 year old 50 summilux, but it’s loosening. Dusting off my zone focusing skills! Great to have a wider FOV on the fuji, albeit ~47mm with the crop. ERA23 I can kinda see what you mean, I reach for the aperture ring first instead of the focus ring, but I chalked it up to my summilux 50 muscle memory Thanks to Andrew Zappin and Michael Baker at the Leica store LA for the sale. They allowed me to test out the 21mm F1.4 beast. Found a matching metal end cap and even an iPad mini cover!😂 Welcome, dear visitor! archiea Posted April 7, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted April 7, 2021 Two samples: I focused closer than the .07 meters using a helicoid extender, messing with a custom Kodachrome recipe on the fuji using a shade WB outdoor and WB shift away from blue toward red. the image of the restaurant was also a test of a Kodachrome recipe. Pushed too much blue out, turning green with the shade WB. Well gotta crack a few eggs! these are OOC jpgs. Welcome, dear visitor!
