I have done a quick corner & centre side-by-side sharpness test under sunny normal conditions with Apo Lanthar 35/2 and Summilux 35 FLE, both at f/2 and set to infinity.

Corners results (towards extreme ends) are depicted here. (Centre is so minor in favor of Voigtlander that it is not relevant).
Left part everywhere: Voigtlander, right part everywhere: FLE.

Camera: Leica M10-R. Profile used for Voigtlander correction (in Camera Raw): VM 35 Ultron ASPH.

From what I see in the test results the Voightlander is much better then the FLE

Yes but people will be talking for years about FLE‘s character at F 1.4. Who’s shooting landscapes at infinity @ f2 on regular basis?

This thread has faded... nobody using the 35 APO LANTHAR on their M's?

Not here, yet. I’m surprised more people haven’t posted about it. I plan to get one, given my delight with the 50 APO Lanthar on mainly my M 10 Monochrom, and also after reading Reid Review’s detailed look into the 35 APO Lanthar vs M 35 APO Summicron.

I guess one thing I’m toying with is the 35 Lanthar is even longer than its 50 sibling, so more rangefinder blockage. But then for landscapes or architecture on a tripod with live view (my normal set-up), it’s a moot point. And being more telecentric, I’d guess the 35 Lanthar could potentially work more happily on non-M bodies too such as the SLs?

I sold this lens because it was too big, too heavy, too sharp, too sterile, no character at all.

At first it was fun to see all my sensor could offer and to crop in massively. When that wore off, I ended up wanting more (or less depending how I look at it).

Here’s a snapshot without editing. I believe this was f4 at MFD. You can crop in massively and still see the veins in the wings. The bees were about just a few mm in length (wasn’t easy to freeze and get them in focus)

My favorite rendering of this lens though was a picture I took at f2.8 and I missed focus
