Thanks. A bit off topic, but you mentioned using the old Voigtlander APO 180/4. Was this the lens made for the Nikon back then? Assume one can adopt it to about any camera these days?

I've not owned or used the older Voigtlander apo-lanthar releases (110 and 180, I think)... they look great in reviews - expensive as collector items. I believe both were made in Nikkor mount (among others) so should be adaptable to L-mount with the Novoflex adapter.

The VM apo-lanthar 50 is, for the moment, the lens I carry if I am going to carry one lens. I brought it with me last weekend on a trip with my wife to see an old friend and mentor who had moved into a senior living environment that was not possible to visit during the past 15 months. Camera used is the Sigma fp-L with EVF-11.

Truly lovely photos

I have been contemplating between the VC 50/1.2 and the VC 50/2 Lanthar
Given the high ISO of the M10 series and my eyes ability to focus accurately, I often wonder how much I really need faster than f2 anyway..

The apo lanthar was available as 90mm, 125mm macro, and 180mm for Nikon F and others. I own the 90mm and the 125mm macro and both work very well on my SL.

Thanks. Is there a Nikon to SL adapter you prefer? I would love t have a 90 and 180.

I use a Kipon adapter and it works very well. When you look for the lenses, be sure that the lens hood is included. The original hoods are very rare and expensive.

Wide open shots taken with the CV 50 APO look like they were taken with a wider aperture lens due to the nice vignetting the lens has at f/2. And the combination of extreme sharpness with the vignetting is wonderful and something you don’t get with a wider lens once you stop it down. And since the Leica 50 APO has less vignetting wide open, that leaves the CV APO as maybe the only lens that can natively produce the look it does wide open.

Of course the bokeh is not the same as a wider aperture lens, but you can maximize the APO bokeh by shooting very close to your subjects.
