Leica C3 issue

Hello community. I hope I am not posting in the wrong forum, but I am not sure which is the correct forum for the C3. Firstly, I am not very knowledgeable with film cameras. However, I recently acquired a Leica C3 point and shoot and need some guidance on it's operation. I cannot get the flash to work. Could be a problem, or could be my ignorance. The battery is good and auto flash is on. When I press the shutter release halfway, I see both the red and green lights solid which I believe indicates the flash is ready, but when pressed all the way to take a pic, I can hear and see the zoom lens(which is already extended) move out just a tiny bit more and the lights go out. After that, I can still see the lcd display info but I don't get a response from any of the buttons on the camera on top of the camera. What I have to do is push the rockers for zooming and it does adjust the zoom, and then I am again able to press the shutter halfway to see the red/green lights back on. Once again though, a full press repeats the same process and I never see the camera flash. I do not have film inserted, I am just trying to test to see if the camera function properly in general. Film doesn't need to be inserted to get a flash does it? Can anyone inform me of something I could be doing wrong or if it indeed sounds like there is and issue? Thanks

Hi Buddy-

I don't know if you have solved the flash problem already, but on my C3 the flash will fire without film loaded in the camera.

Perhaps the Auto Flash mode won't allow the flash to fire if the ambient light is already bright enough for an exposure. You could try setting the mode to Flash ON. When in this mode, the flash is forced to fire no matter how much ambient light there is.

Cheers
