Raid Amin Posted March 8, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted March 8, 2021 (edited) WOW. This is a strong endorsement for the old Summicron. Is your lens the ltm version? Edited March 8, 2021 by Raid Amin

I don't know that the old 90mm Summicron I & II (lovingly known as "The Stovepipe") is exactly underrated. Even Erwin Puts notes that it has less vignetting and distortion than the lighter, more compact 1980 revision. And produces at least equal fine detail at f/2 (although Puts still calls it "somewhat turgid recording"). It is just that it is a $%^& piece of field artillery compared to any other M-Mount 90mm (except the new Summilux). Even larger and heavier (by 100g) than the 90mm Summicron-R. I've had Hasselblad 6x6 lenses that were smaller and lighter (and they include a shutter). I dropped out of SLRs and got into the M rangefinder system exactly so that I would never, ever have to lug around a lens of that size and weight again. At least not unless it provided 3x the magnification (270-300mm). And thus there exists no height of optical quality or character that would ever entice me to use it. (My chiropractor agrees). That, more than optical quality, is why it is often inexpensive, and perhaps undervalued, when encountered. I will grant it the title of being the "second-cheapest thrill" in Leica M-dom, following the 135mm f/4.0 Tele-Elmar. Raid Amin Posted March 8, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted March 8, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I will use this lens even if it is larger and heavier than most of my M mount lenses. The Summilux 75 1.4 is also quite heavy.
MikeMyers Posted March 8, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 8, 2021 I have one, and have been very pleased with it. I would never sell it. All my Leica lenses are "old". From my point of view, I would give it 10 stars out of 10.
