vikasmg Posted March 2, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I have not used my SL2 for a few weeks. When I pulled it out yesterday to use it I realized I’d left it ‘on’ so I switched it off and then Onn again - expecting that the camera would have switched itself off to save the battery and would come on again. It didn’t. I swapped the battery with a new (charged) one and it still wouldn’t start up. I charged the first battery (the charger actually showed an 80% charg but I charged it all the way anyway and this morning I put it back in the camera but still no life. What could be happening. Is there something I can do to make it work again (like pressing some button while turning it on)? Or does it need to go in for repair? Any thought welcome. ———————————————- Problem fixed. I’ll leave the message in case it helps someone else. ———————————————- Just after I posted the message above I had a thought. With the switch turned on I removed the lens. To my surprise I heard a sound like the shutter firing. I then put the lens back on and everything seems to back in good order. I don’t know what caused the original problem and I don’t know why what I did worked but it did work! Cheers. Advertisement Posted March 2, 2021 Posted March 2, 2021 Hi vikasmg, Take a look here SL2 wont start even with newly charged battery. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hofo100 Posted March 2, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2021 Have you tried removing all SD cards and detach lens? Some years ago my SL did freeze and I remember that this did help.
LocalHero1953 Posted March 2, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2021 Also worth leaving it a couple of days without a battery at all. I think there's an internal battery that is charged from the main one. If something has got corrupted, you may need to let this go flat as well before restarting. I've done the same as you before (left a camera switched on and flattened the battery) but never with such results.
Eclectic Man Posted March 2, 2021 Share #4 Posted March 2, 2021 Also worth checking the electrical contacts in the camera and on the battery are ok.

Photoworks Posted March 2, 2021 Share #6 Posted March 2, 2021 sounds like a bug to report to Leica
LD_50 Posted March 2, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 2, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would also try to connect to USB-C and see if that resurrects the camera.
LocalHero1953 Posted March 2, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2021 (edited) I have had that shutter noise before, not on the SL2 - perhaps the SL or CL. It's when the camera has shut down in a non-standard way - perhaps the shutter has been left in an intermediate state if I removed the battery while switched on. Whatever the cause, the shutter triggering open, or a full shut-open-shut-open cycle seems to sort it out and I've had no further problems. I don't think it's a bug in the normal sense, just an error state that it has got into due to the battery going flat while switched on. ajmarton1 Posted March 2, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2021 You may have triggered a long exposure with the cap on the lens and then it went into sleep and the battery died with the shutter curtain up. Some strange 'perfect storm' situation. I have created the long exposure scenario inadvertently on Ms and other cameras.

Some strange 'perfect storm' situation. I have created the long exposure scenario inadvertently on Ms and other cameras. Thank you everyone for chiming in with help. Maybe I should have put the last paragraph first that the problem resolved itself. I thing this comment by ajmarton1 may have at least part of the answer - I wondered about just that myself. If I’d removed and replaced the lens before trying out new batteries I would have concluded that so it may well be that. Since the battery still had 80% charge, lack of power probably wasn’t the problem. But the camera going to sleep in the middle of an inadvertent long exposure seems odd as well. I would have thought that even if that was the case, my toggling the on-off switch would have corrected the problem. Anyway, if it’s a bug it’s not a major one. Brought about by a set of unique sequence of operations I guess. In response to RBB, above, I tried to replicate the shutter noise by removing and re-mounting the lens again a couple of times and I could not replicate the problem. I also took a couple of pictures in between and everything seems back to normal.

De-mounting & re-mouning the lens immediately solved it. At the time I could only assume that it was related to a slight misalignment of the electrical contacts on the lens & SL2 body. Pleased the you've resolved it. Best Mike
