While not strictly a Leica product, this camera is sold by Leica and a Leica tag line. So I think it should be discussed in the forum.

I bought a insta360 last year because of the Leica optics and believing that it would have been tested and approved by Leica engineers.

But that seems not to be the case. Insta360 is a Chinese made product and so far has confirmed my low expectation from China developed and build products.

Plus Leica has shown a dismal service and a level of arrogance in respect to communication or I have to say lack of. I like to say this in particular based ona much faster and speedier problem solving by another German firm in respect to a problem.

My first insta360 died after 5 days. I returned it to the Sydney shop. It took 5!!! weeks before I got a replacement. Still had to write to Leica Australia first.

The new camera had problems with working with the app. But I managed about 30min recordings before it died as well.

Took it back to the shop. The friendly staff however had no idea about the product and their demo unit was not even charged so that we could check if a simple battery problem may have existed.

The camera is now back in service for two weeks.

In the mean time I e-mailed support in Wetzlar. Dead silence. For 10 days now.

As I mentioned before, when i had a problem with a ten year old Festo/ Fein tool last year snd could not get support from the Australian office, I e-mailed Germany. Response time 24 hours from Germany, 36 hours from Australia HQ after they got contacted bt Festo Germany.

As a Leica user since the 1960's and owner of several Leica systems I am extremely disappointed. The insta360 seems crap, unless someone can tell me otherwise. Optically beautiful, but the rest....

Support: Has Leica become to successful to care anymore? Maybe celebrities take up to much time so there is non for us commoners.

What is your experience?

Norbert Schmiedeberg, Sydney, Australia

PS: The staff at the Sydney Leica store is friendly and nice. It was not a cynical comment.

How sad. Can COVID-19 be the culprit? No excuse for failure to respond. I have encountered similar delays with Leica UK, regarding an impossibly tight-fitting lens hood on a Leica lens. Normally I would get a reply, if only a holding reply. So far, nothing. Perhaps no-one is on duty these days.
