Great as always Ernst.  Your young family are going to have quite the collection of memories in the future

I hope you are better at cataloguing your images than I am (I'm sure you are ) :P

Thanks! Yes, I both geotag and keyword tag all my images, so I can quickly find them if I want to.

But I don't know what to do with them all. It's almost like an obsession, I just have to take them! 😬😄

I think I'll go through mine and organise them (luckily they are in folders by shoot but I certainly fall being with tagging and rating favourites)

"one day" :D

Best is prints in a big box. Physically digging and touching and looking at prints is what it’s about. Print them all 4x6 and fill the box.

sorry to say but as files, they are already lost.

Thanks for the tip. I have wanted to print my images and put in albums, but it's too much work. A big box is probably better. But another problem with printing is that I don't want my images to be cropped (they are already cropped exactly the way I want them), and printing will inevitably cause some cropping. Most of all I want to make photobooks. I have made a couple already, but making photobooks out of all my images, even just the best ones, seems to be an overly large job.

Honestly, just print all your best and throw them in a large plastic storage box. This is about the best gift you can make for your family. Hours of pleasure digging into it.

One way to print would simply be to print your favorites (probably 2-3-4000 of them) with the longest side fitting into 5.5 inch and let the shorter side fall where it may. There will be a white border but you will have all your shots as you like them. And yes, thaT’s why never cropping is the best practice: get it right in the camera.

It will cost a lot bit hey, who said that photography was free? Digital comes with a great caveat: files in a computer are worthless. You are starting to see that.

I would simply choose the folder contsining the favorites and send them for priting with the instructions. I believe “overall” means that the whole file must fit inside the 4x6.

Printing also puts into perspective this whole photography thing, and the obsession around Lens’ rendition, it all becomes clear that it’s a diversion against the real purpose.

Start slowly, print a dozen every week and build from there.

this is also why film is best. One film a day, print 2-3 from each film...

Love the soft bokeh and sharp focus at f/2 (click on the image for higher resolution).
