jaques Posted February 28, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) years ago I purchased the full Nik efex suite to use with LR on my mac. All worked well until a while back Nik efex silver pro 2 stopped working. when I select a photo in LR it makes a copy but silver efex doesn't open. When I go to the app and try it also won't open. I have lost touch with the all the news about NIK- going to google- and then to some new company now- DXO? . I've tried googling this issue but no luck- found a few people with same problem but no solution. It's a shame as I really want to get back to using the software. My mac is getting on now (2011- running sierra)- and my version of LR is also old. I think I have a code from leica left over to upgrade but am scared my computer it too old to handle newer software... anyone experience similar or have any tips? Is there a good alternative to Nik efex these days? Edited February 28, 2021 by jaques
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Hi jaques, Take a look here NIK Silver Efex Pro on Mac- problems.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
caloosajo Posted February 28, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2021 Had that same problem this month but I’m running Big Sur and most up-to-date LR version. Nevertheless, I deleted it, redownloaded from Nik, reinstalled and it’s been working fine ever since.
Ray Vonn Posted February 28, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 28, 2021 Alas, I find this is all normal for the Nik software, even the most up to date versions, at least on my Mac. Deleting, re-downloading then the inevitable return to the app freezing, going though that process again and again, I’ve come to accept it. Requires regular servicing for it to be kept going satisfactorily, a bit like our Leica cameras😂
P1505 Posted February 28, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2021 It’s not just a Mac issue either.
hofo100 Posted February 28, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2021 Never experienced any problems - installed the NIK collection back in 2017 and since then numerous upgrades to LR and Mac OS (currently 11.2.2) and even carry-over to new hardware with time machine without any flaws... I have been always expecting that the day will come when NIK stops working but today is not the day ;)...
zeitz Posted February 28, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 28, 2021 The free Nik Collection from Google works just fine on my 2018 MacMini running Catalina and the latest Adobe Photoshop.
Anbaric Posted March 2, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 2, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't know if Adobe would honour LR upgrade codes now - they only sell Creative Cloud rentals these days. If you want to try re-installing Nik, the free Google version, which might be more up to date than yours, is here: Mac: http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.dmg Windows: http://dl.google.com/edgedl/photos/nikcollection-full-1.2.11.exe DXO have now acquired and upgraded it: https://support.dxo.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001439187-Is-it-still-possible-to-get-the-free-download-version-of-the-Nik-Collection-
LeicaS2 Posted March 14, 2021 Share #8 Posted March 14, 2021 When I first start up my Mac the SXP fails to open the file. I do a force quit, and open the file again with no issue.
strohscw Posted March 15, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 15, 2021 I had the problems on mac when it was forced to generate its results on a separate layer. To apply the outcome to the same layer worked. So I copied the layer first, and used the copy for the SXP so I had it on a second layer.

Recently I transferred everything to a new Win 10 PC and 'upgraded' from Photoshop 2018 to 2021 and was baffled why my Nik Suite and other plugins couldn't be installed. It actually turns out to be a quite simple solution so for the sake of adding to the knowledge base I followed the easy steps in this video https://youtu.be/SNDtEkjgYuo
