Dopaco Posted February 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm testing this telephoto lens with my TL2 and for now everything works fine, but if I force the movement there is a click, clack. (See small video attached) .: Could this be a reason to return it ... or is it common in most of these lenses? .. If I don't push it up / down, there is no such noise and everything works perfectly. The objective is from the year 1973. Do I need opinions and advice? ... Thanks.
Advertisement Posted February 26, 2021 Posted February 26, 2021 Hi Dopaco, Take a look here Tele Elmar-135mm, f4 M with TL2. (Click / clack noise). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tommonego@gmail.com Posted February 27, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 27, 2021 I didn't have that problem on my 1966 Tele Elmar, but I had it CLAd after I did the first roll with it. Was OK but not as good as I expected, the glass seemed a little hazy and the sleeve with the DOF chart on it was moving around after the CLA it is fantastic. Sounds like a loose focus ring or a lack of greese on the helical focusing gear.
lct Posted February 27, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2021 The video is too short to be sure but it is not normal at first glance. Does the lens make this noise when you turn the focus ring or even w/o turning it?

When I move the ring to focus, it doesn't make any noise, it just makes that noise in a certain position that I have to force. I have tested how it focuses and does it well, the lenses are clean. I'm going to make another video where there is more information.
wda Posted February 27, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 27, 2021 It is not clear to me why you need to force rotation if the lens focuses correctly. Does it have a detachable lens unit? If so, maybe that needs tightening.
nicci78 Posted February 27, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2021 (edited) May be the connection between the real lens and the tube is not correct. Tele-Elmar 135mm lens part (the head) can be detach from the M mount extension/focusing tube ! It could be used with Visoflex + proper adapter. So just unscrew it to check if the lens part is ok and if the tube is clean. Edited February 27, 2021 by nicci78

I'm going to make another video where there is more information. The noise doesn't seem to come from the top of the lens (optical cell aka lens head) but from the bottom of it (helicoid or flange). I would look if one or more screws of the flange are not loose there, which could explain some play.
tommonego@gmail.com Posted February 27, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 27, 2021 I'm still thinking the greese dried out on the helicoid.

Dopaco Posted February 27, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted February 27, 2021 Thank you very much for passing and comment. Thanks to the help I now have clearer ideas. The Tele 135 if they are from the year 1973 or> are more expensive and this was obtained for a reasonably low price, that's why so much interest in testing it. tommonego@gmail.com Posted February 27, 2021 Share #12 Posted February 27, 2021 I would send it out for a CLA, mine wasn't very expensive to have done. If you got it for a reasonable price I would just send it out. No reason you can't take it out for a spin, if it behaves just say it is a quirky lens. But it will be smoother with a CLA.
Dopaco Posted February 27, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted February 27, 2021 Having practiced for a short time, I agree with some results. The 135mm on TL2 is a 200mm. At a great distance it captures many details. The photo was taken first with my iPhone and then with TL2 + Tele-Elmar-135mm f4. (do not use tripods) Welcome, dear visitor! Dopaco Posted March 2, 2021 Author Share #14 Posted March 2, 2021 Hello: Thank you very much everyone for the advice and comments. In the end he has been returned, another is on the way, apparently better care, I hope this one does not have noises at least he is more expensive and I have had to pay the difference. I am bidding for a 55-135 L. I have a budget of 1000 Euros with shipping costs included ... In the used market can I find that Lens with that budget? ...... Thank you very much again and sorry for so many questions.

I am also registered in summilux. I seem to have seen the same ad on Ebay but at a higher price. I am not in a hurry to buy this lens, I also have to wait for the auction to end. My intention is not to exceed the budget and especially when it is something that is not a priority.

Dopaco Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share #18 Posted March 4, 2021 Hello: Today I received the Tele Elmar 135mm F4 to replace the old one. This one does not make any strange noise and is more modern, I hope everything works out well. Welcome, dear visitor! Honestly I’ve not seen it for sale used much at all, at any price. 1,000 euros right now would be $1,195 dollars.
Dopaco Posted March 5, 2021 Author Share #20 Posted March 5, 2021 @Gregm61: This is not the Leica APO-Telyt-M 135mm f / 3.4, anodized black, and Leica sells it for 3,700 euros and there are few used ones. This one that I bought seems to be well preserved, I bought it in Germany, I ordered it on 1-3-2021 and yesterday the 4th it was delivered to me, fast and efficient service. I am enclosing a note of what it cost me. It is true what you say, there is a lot of difference in prices both in new and used, so my recommendation is to waste a little time searching and surely the time invested will compensate with a better price.
