NigelG Posted February 25, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2021 Sorry I think it’s hideous. Put me off my cornflakes (Leica Manchester UK announcement arrived 9am here in NYC).
nwphil Posted February 25, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 25, 2021 indeed. ...the gilden russian versions of the M look better (not) a lens cap with a lens blades graphics ( reminiscent of the 007 movies introducion clips), a worn-out paint job scheme with an engraviing on top, somewhat 🌽 " licensed to shot on sight" ( license to kill might be too much off-pc to sensible guts), then it might have been convincing.... sad Leica.,.. very sad..... JJ99 Posted February 25, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2021 Opinion is going to differ on this. If you bought one, would you actually use it, or just keep it nice and safe in its box hoping that it increases in price over time?

Le Chef Posted February 25, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 25, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) If it doesn’t sell they will rename it The John Player Special and it will come with a free Colin Chapman black corduroy cap.... 1
vedivv Posted February 25, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 25, 2021 People certainly have different sensibilities. I am sure collectors would love it, and it might go up in value. The special edition Q-P makes functional sense. So sure. This type of special edition stuff always make me feel self conscious. Bought a Omega 007 watch a while back. Regretted it right away. Never worn the thing because didn't want to look like a fanboy and the 007 logo on the dial just looks tacky. Good thing this Q2 is subtle, but certainly do NOT want to have conversation with a curious friend, "what do these two guys have to do with your camera". Hard to answer it without sounding like a fanboy or snob.

I think the only Lotus 007 ever drove was the "submarine" S1 Esprit - maybe they muddled the photos with the S2 JPS edition...? Welcome, dear visitor! NigelG Posted February 26, 2021 Share #11 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) The S2 JPS was a “World Champions” commemorative special edition (much like the Q2) but only 300 proposed (actual built numbers vary...) Sorry - drifted over from the “Name that car” thread 🙄 Edited February 26, 2021 by NigelG
hillavoider Posted February 26, 2021 Share #12 Posted February 26, 2021 Is this gauche stuff really collectable, I can’t see any money being made on this
Viv Posted February 26, 2021 Share #13 Posted February 26, 2021 I would never buy such a crass violation of good taste. I prefer my Q2 the way it is.
T-800 Posted February 26, 2021 Share #14 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) Love my Q2 and would definitely consider trading it for this one! And shooting the hell out of it of course, there is no point in stuff sitting on the shelve for me personally Black/Gold is a very nice combo and i absolutely dig it on the older M cameras where the brass shines through on the edges...but that's also the main downside for me here. It's mainly just the gold writing and logo in this special edition. Problem is that i would love to have the gold only on the edges/lines of the camera...I think gold font on plastic buttons always looks a little cheap, that's why i would have preferred to have only gold accent lines on the edges like on a old M...pretty sure they had a version like this when they designed this special edition but i don't know why they opt'ed for this one... Still I would love to see it in person to get a better picture of it...also happened to watch casino royale yesterday so that's a sign Edited February 26, 2021 by T-800
T25UFO Posted February 26, 2021 Share #15 Posted February 26, 2021 Every Leica special edition release provokes similar comment: those who think it's awful and diminishes the brand, and those who tolerate because it helps Leica make money. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Personally, I've never been keen on any special edition, with the possible exception of the Monochrom Stealth. I thought that look nice, but still wouldn't buy it. However, if you forget the 007 connection and just look at it as a design exercise, would you be as critical? If you could remove the gold Leica logo on the front, it might look better. It's certainly a lot better than those colourful blue and pink models that came with a huge similarly coloured metal case. Now that really was crass!
ruskkyle Posted February 26, 2021 Share #16 Posted February 26, 2021 I like the design but for each mention of a celebrity name the camera should be 25% lower in price. These guys’ publicists must be absolutely laughing.

NigelG Posted February 26, 2021 Share #20 Posted February 26, 2021 (edited) Maybe when using his Q2 Daniel Craig has a “GoldenEye” (Yes I know that was actually Pierce Brosnan....) Edited February 26, 2021 by NigelG
