Why not? I really with that the Leica m system had a built to order option.

1. Select your sensor
Monochrome
24mpx
40mpx

2. Select your body colour
silver
black paint
matte black

3. Screen and interface
No screen & basic buttons (I have no need on the M10D for the thumbwheel nor the front focus zoom in button)
Screen + lots of buttons

Then everyone could be happy :D

You overestimate the potential for consensus.  Arguments still over:

4. Body covering

5. Dot or no dot (screw)

6. Script (and specific wording) or no script, or personal signature

7. Hard copy manual or online

Etc, etc....

Even then, cost would be an issue, as Leica currently can add $thousands for mostly cosmetic P updates, special editions, etc.

This very particular customer base helps fuel Leica’s M business.

They ran the a la carte program for years...I suspect that it was a bit finicky and not enough people used to it make it economical. Leica being Leica, I am not entirely convinced that they would not do something like that for you, if you asked very nicely. Perhaps not for anything that would require a lot of extra work, but different covering or a different color dot etc... They gave my M9 a black dot when I asked them to, and it was not an MP. I bought an a la carte M7 in 2005, and got it in blue. 15 years later, I would swap it for black if it went in for service and Leica made it clear that they would be willing to do so for no extra charge if I sent it in for a CLA.  But maybe you have to be Seal or Lenny Kravitz to get something really special...
