sandro #1 Posted February 22 Advertisement (gone after registration) Accidently I came across a variation of the Tele-Elmarit 2.8/90mm that I was not aware of before. This one looks exactly as my Tele-Elmarit-M 2.8/90mm, but is bears the name Tele-Elmarit instead of Tele-Elmarit-M. Also the scripture on the front is different and contains the serial number, which in my version is engraved on the aperture ring. This is the link: Leica Tele-Elmarit 2,8/90mm 11800 // 31687,11 | eBay Is this an early version, before the name was changed to Tele-Elmarit-M perhaps? pippy #3 Posted February 22 (edited) 29 minutes ago, lct said: Yes early models have not the suffix M... Just to confirm what lct has already written there is a London dealership which, currently, has for sale #2 585 XXX similarly engraved which is claimed (and I trust this dealer's word 100%) to be one of the first 500 examples of the 90mm f2.8 T-E ever made (FWIW the dealership is asking £299 / 345 Euros). pgk #4 Posted February 23 FWIW I have 2695XXX (serial number engraved on the front as above) and which has no M engraved either. Another Leica anomaly. At some point they obviously made the change and whilst it may have been on all lenses from a specific serial number, from what I've seen of such anomalies I would not be surprised If Leica had another way of doing things which resulted in a mix of styles of engraving within the serial number series. Nice lens but haze can be difficult to clean and flare can be a problem. It absolutely needs hood IUFOO (12575)!
luigi bertolotti #5 Posted February 23 (edited) According to Wiki (Source is Puts) a Lens in the 2.8xx.xxx ought to be marked as "M" : SN Start SN End Product Year Total 2585501 2588500 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit (ELC) 1973 3000 2656951 2659450 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit (ELC) 1973 2500 2695501 2697500 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit-M 1974 2000 2726921 **2728920 **135mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit (ELC) 1976 [2000] 2792651 2794650 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit-M (ELC) 1976 2000 2831351 2832350 90mm f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit-M 1977 1000 But all of us do known well that those data are often not the Bible... 😁 Anyway the London dealer is truthful about its 2.585.xxx .By chance, in my archives i have pictures of a 2.967.9xx ("Tele - Elmarit Leitz Canada") and a 2.968.8xx ("Tele - Elmarit - M Leitz Lens Made in Canada" Edited February 23 by luigi bertolotti 2 pgk and Ray Vonn reacted to this

lct #7 Posted February 23 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) On my Leitz catalogues before 1977 it is "Elmarit" and after it becomes "Elmarit-M". I have not the catalogues from 1977 to 1981 so i don't know exactly when the change occurred. Edited February 23 by lct
Pecole #8 Posted February 23 From my archives, eight serials for Tele-Elmarit 2.8/90, all made in Canada : 2069742 ("fat" 1st version 11800, no M); 2070898 (idem); 2071194 (idem, chrome); 2342556 (idem, black); 2490555 (idem); 2793033 (new definition, but always lacking M); 2941392 and 3201480 (both black new version, only the last number with Tele-Elmarit-M). Let's add that all lenses came in my collection with 11252 and 14269 caps, and with either 12575 normal or 11250 supple hoods. Hello guest! Please register or sign in to view the hidden content. luigi bertolotti #9 Posted February 23 😉The old "fat" (or "nano") is definitely nicer than the TE... 😎... just a question of feel, of course... but if you handle a "fat" and handle a TE , you touch the difference from how items were designed and built in the '60s and the '70s 2 Scrapbook and roydonian reacted to this
a.noctilux #10 Posted February 24 My last one (I've had three "thin T-E 90" over time bought/sold) is TELE-ELMARIT (without -M), serial 2.871.xxx
ph. #11 Posted February 26 After using for a couple of years I found my slim T-E (with clean glass) less sharp & contrasty than I wanted,, even when used with my wobbly, snap fastened & ancient 90&136mm sunshade, so it was replaced with the "Voigtländer" apo lanthar 90mm. with a sunshade that mjust be screwded on but stays on. p. didier #13 Posted February 28 (edited) My wife’s late Grandfather had some Leica Gear, and among the stuff I found Friday is a copy of this 90. Cosmetics don’t look good - almost a beater - focusing is a bit stiff, but Lenses are clean and results very nice Hello guest! Please register or sign in to view the hidden content. Hallo Gast!
