I had a shoot today.

in reviewing images, the icon in the upper right corner shows that in-body image stabilization is turned off (x).  I went into the menus to turn it on, but Image Stabilization is gray, not selectable, and I am not able to turn it on.

I could use your help in understanding why it is grayed out, and not selectable.  And how do I turn it on?

thanks in advance.

exactly, the camera has to know which lens is used to offer IBIS

Maybe it works with R-lenses with ROM and the original Leica R-L-Adapter, but I don't know

It does with ROM.  I haven't tried to put on an R lens without ROM (for example my 50 Macro is not ROM) and tell it what lens to expect, but that should also work.  As noted just above.

ah... and the camera did not select it automatically.  I manually selected the lens, and now Img stabilization is selectable.  Thanks!

As Scott says above, Image Stabilization  also works with non ROM lenses. I use a 3rd party R to L mount dumb adapter for my non ROM lenses & as long as you manually select the focal length & lens, Image Stabilization does work.

I have read that IBIS is sometime off when it senses a tripod

but hand holder you can select any 28mm lens from the lens profile selector.

I would be interested in seeing some sample images of this lens on a SL2. I was considering buying it. I already use Canon 24 and 17mm TS-E.

Can you share some?
