w44neg Posted February 15, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Firstly, don't worry, I know cameras pick up scratches and it's hardly going to fall apart because of them 😄 However I was watching a YouTube video recently and the guy said he occasionally polished the scratches out of his black M10P. I picked up this silver M10P and it has a few rub marks from straps etc. Welcome, dear visitor! I have some experience with polishing metal etc and I never thought a finish as delicate as the M10P (looks bead-blasted) could be rescued in a DIY fashion, but perhaps I'm wrong. Has anyone managed it? The scratches shown are in the highest point of the surface; they look deeper in the image but they're just where the strap has rubbed. Not an issue as I say, but if there's a way to keep the camera in nicer shape, I'm interested that;ss all. tobey bilek Posted February 16, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 16, 2021 Only the very lightest may be polished. Generally chrome is .001” in thickness and polishing will leave a big dull spot. Prevention is best. I used to use MMM waterproof tape in clear over certain areas and it would last the life of the camera and leave little residue. It is no longer made. Try some clear tape from Amazon made for boats or swimming pool liners. You might also try a soft cotton fleece sleeve over the bottom of the strap. Custom made. Yeah I think you're right. If I remember correctly, there were different opinions on whether it is a good idea to try to polish out scratches or not and a few methods on how to do this.
