P1505 Posted February 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all. My Q is misbehaving. When on autofocus it regularly thinks I’m trying to focus manually, and will zoom in and out rapidly and not focus. I’ve tried resetting the camera but no joy. Time for a service? Advertisement Posted February 13, 2021 Posted February 13, 2021 Hi P1505, Take a look here Leica Q - Focus ring problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
P1505 Posted February 13, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted February 13, 2021 So an update on this. Manual focus works perfectly. When I put it into AF it’ll sometimes not know. When it is in AF, if I go anywhere near that focus ring it’ll start flicking between manual and AF until I move it back to manual, and back to AF. I think it’s a sensor issue. Ive read that the Q repaired often just end up with a new lens at £1,400 so would prefer to fix myself if possible.
P1505 Posted February 18, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted February 18, 2021 The fix to this is apparently a new lens. The switch probably just needs some switch cleaner on it, so it’s annoying. If it gets worse I’ll have a go myself. Cant wait to go to the M. Not really that much to go wrong.

Because I regularly read about improperly adjusted lenses, problems with infinity focusing, misaligned rangefinders with vertical errors, but so far for the first time about problems with a focus ring on the Q, I can't believe that a Leica M is less problematic. Good luck!

I would click in and out of MF half a dozen times to try and “clean” the switch of any corrosion. I’m just guessing, but sometimes that switch can be a little fiddley. Otherwise, send it in for repair. Hopefully it’s under warranty still. Regardless, it’s annoying and takes away the fun of using the camera. Good luck. P1505 Posted February 22, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted February 22, 2021 I’ve tried that, no dice. It’s developed a sweet spot which I can now engage with ease. The thing makes such lovely images I won’t get rid of it. Repair quote was £1,400 for a new lens.

Cheesehead Posted September 12, 2021 Share #9 Posted September 12, 2021 I think I am having the same issue with my Q2. Autofocus generally works great, but sometimes if my finger touches, or even comes close to the focus ring the camera starts oscillating between Zoom x3 and autofocus and blows my shot. It will do this for several days and then for a few weeks work perfectly. Though I would rather not have the camera leave my side, I think I may need to have it looked at. Q2Finn Posted September 14, 2021 Share #10 Posted September 14, 2021 I noticed the same issue today with my Q2. The AF works well but if my finger touches the focus ring it starts changing from AF to zoom x3. It worked just fine yesterday but all of a sudden it started doing this today. Strange, I have to ask Leica about it.

Cheesehead Posted October 26, 2021 Share #12 Posted October 26, 2021 After a brief visit to Leica in New Jersey my Q2 has returned to me. It was cleaned and adjusted and is now working as good as new. Thank you
