Advertisement Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Hi BlueIn2Red, Take a look here Sigma fp L on the way?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
BernardC Posted February 10, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 10, 2021 That's good news. Let's hope they add an EVF connection and 10-bit log. RAW is great, especially since there's an option for BM Raw, which is universally-compatible unlike ProRes RAW, but 10-bit log is the sweet spot for file size vs. quality. I also wouldn't mind full-frame 6K, like Panasonic. I wouldn't use it very often, but there's something conceptually odd about having a "raw" 4K file that is actually resampled 6K. Bonus points if they use a fully-documented log format with ACES support. Maybe they can license Panasonic's V-Log.
BlueIn2Red Posted February 10, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted February 10, 2021 I'd love IBIS, but apparently it's difficult with the heatsink design (sensor needs to be hard mounted to the heatsink, for obvious reasons). Frustrating for me, because I use the fp only for still photography (yes, I'm weird).
sobkrates Posted February 11, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2021 L-Rumors says: new body design, IBIS, and a new 60MP Sensor disgned by Sigma.
BlueIn2Red Posted February 11, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted February 11, 2021 Really hope they don't go to 60mp, that would pretty much kill it for me - slightly less so if it has IBIS, but that in turn means the body design is likely to be larger, which significantly reduces the value of the fp for me (which is as a small and light alternative to my SL2).
sobkrates Posted February 11, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 11, 2021 Maybe the 60MP are a Foveon calculation - 3 * 20 MP 🙂.
LocalHero1953 Posted February 11, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) A new L-mount body, a bit bigger than the current one to incorporate a new EVF and what do we have? The M-sized full frame L-mount that everyone has been calling for (full frame CL, small SL, whatever). Should fly off the shelves🙂 Edited February 11, 2021 by LocalHero1953
Chris W Posted February 13, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 13, 2021 The only issue I have with the current FP is the lack of a viewfinder. The picture quality and sharpness of the current FP is fantastic. I think 60MP is going to cause more problems than it solves. I just don't need those huge files, then you get issues with moire. A lot of amazing images (still and moving) have been shot on much lower resolution media.

BlueIn2Red Posted February 14, 2021 Author Share #11 Posted February 14, 2021 Right, it will be interesting to see if that's for the "old" fp, or the new L.
Yuhau Posted February 16, 2021 Share #12 Posted February 16, 2021 Really look forward to this FP-L . I am sure there will be a lot of interest if indeed it has Foveon sensor, IBIS and an EVF ( external or built in ). Many of my friends have been waiting for years to try their beautiful Leica or other legacy glasses on the famous Foveon sensor. This may give another spin to the L mount alliance. Leica, the king (Design , Quality and Price) , Panasonic offers a viable traditional alternative and Sigma provides the "FUN" and unique conversation pieces. ( FP , FP-L etc) . So if they play their roles right , we will have a complete stable of L mount cameras and lenses from all three companies.
BlueIn2Red Posted February 16, 2021 Author Share #13 Posted February 16, 2021 It would be pretty amazing if it is Foveon, because it was only a year ago that Sigma said that they were "starting over" with full frame Foveon development. Perhaps when an updated body comes out I will have the courage to try it. A very clear and complete video. I've wanted to try to engineer some sort of collapsible shade. Maybe get my feet wet on that first. ;^)
BlueIn2Red Posted February 19, 2021 Author Share #18 Posted February 19, 2021 Slightly unusual update video from Sigma: ... perhaps a result of the fpL rumours? Anyway, now we know it won't be Foveon at least.
Ronald Weissman Posted February 21, 2021 Share #19 Posted February 21, 2021 (edited) I hope that Sigma improves what was already an excellent video/stills camera by enabling faster shutter sync (and perhaps a flash protocol compatible with Panasonic), 10 bit log, a fixed or removable viewfinder, better placement of ports (making cable management easier) and, perhaps IBIS. Please don't waste engineering resources on a niche, dead-end Foveon sensor for a video-centric cam. BlueIn2Red Posted February 21, 2021 Author Share #20 Posted February 21, 2021 I wonder if I'm the only person that uses the fp solely for stills photography? I have an SL2, but I find myself using the fp much more, both for its size and handling (which I actually really like, with a grip and the "viewfinder" especially), but also image quality, which I think is very underrated.
