mmh...this lens is a bit soft at f2, very good at f2.8 , almost crisp from f4 to f11. It's not a modern lens designed by Peter Karbe but it works very good with M10R and can register sharply  'til the last pixel with good exposure and right aperture. As you noted, it is not as contrasty as newer lenses; this moderate contrast generates images with detailed shadows and highlights. Maybe it's my sample that is very good (a silver one) or it could be the absence of filter in front of it but I haven't noticed any clogged shadow.Did you try it with well controlled light and right exposure? Too much underexposure in order to save highlights could lose shadows but I think you already know about it.

This is what I mean.... In pictures where there are subtle variations in contrast... More modern lenses perform better.  Below is not a great photo - but to illustrate a point - the 35mm fle brings out variations in contrast in the leaves of this tree that would be mud with the 35mm con v4.  I love the cron v4.  I just tend to use it where color is the dominant them and / or with portraits.
