I'm always reading that the 35 Summilux ASPH FLE has a sterile, boring character to it, but I can't say I've really found that. I think it really comes alive though, when shot on film. I saw somewhere on this forum that someone - can't remember who - likes to shoot modern aspherical Leica lenses on a film M, and vintage lenses on a digital M, and I'm sure they're onto something there..

I know , its a common misconception. Im not sure its so much a film or digital thing though, one of the things i love about the Karbe lenses is how faithful they are in reproducing the quality of the light you are working with.

i will see if i can find an example or two.

Lovely images, and a big range of tones. I remember Peter Karbe once saying that a major design feature of his lenses are that they can be shot at any aperture with no compromise.

Leica M240 with Noctilux 0.95.  I took the shot last night during a walk close to Union Station in Washington, DC.  More about this statue is here.

Dennis,

Get the SEM because its character motivates you to master the 21 mm view and discover your specific style. Its ergonomics and rendering join into its magic.

Might be next on my list, although I spent four months of rent on lenses this week 😂 I love this little lens.

The longer your dive into Leica lenses, the more you will spend ... it might become an everlasting story ... but it`s not the worst investment story :)

delta 100 is a good guess, but actually it was on of my  first rolls of  100 Acros II.

Difficult to tell in such a hard contrast situation. Funny, I was suspecting Acros, but didn’t think many people used it. I have Acros II loaded in my M3 currently. 👍

Very interesting this in a subjective way. I didn’t really appreciate just how much more “modern” the Karbe lenses rendered on a digital M compared to their Mandler counterparts. From what I’ve seen in this thread so far, it’s the film renderings that seem to be providing a certain distinction. But as I say, all subjective.
