Great thread! Love them both, Karbe’s contrasts and Mandler’s glow.

For a long time the M Monochrom (CCD) + Summilux-M 1:1.4/50 Asph. was my favorite every day set up.

Wonderful photo,

I love the flowers in the foreground.

Which camera is this?

Thank you. It's a MP240.

Incredible photo indeed. As for the camera, I'm going to bet on the M240?

Thank you, and correct!

I agree, it has that airy, open Portra feel about it but then the shadows in the tress are pretty black.

Yes, the contrast is hard in this file. While I didn't aim for any color or film accuracy, I did apply a LUT on this file. But it's a Fuji Superia 800 simulation.

I have just received an official answer from Leica regarding the list of lens designs by Mr. Karbe.

Here is the answer in English:
"Thank you for your request. We are keen on your interest and  an article about Leica lenses and the role of Peter Karbe. Unfortunately, I have to inform you that such an overview is not available. Lens development at Leica Camera AG is regarded as a team work of  competent team of experts. And viewed as a team effort, the participation of individual colleagues, including Peter Karbe's participation in the various lens projects is not explicitly recorded and documented. We are therefore unfortunately unable to help at this point and hope for your understanding."

So the community will hopefully once again have to chip in.

Well, we know for sure he was personally involved in the 50mm APO-Summicron and 50mm Summilux -FLE. I have seen other members of his team mentioned from time to time in relation to specific lenses, but suspect he has signed off all new lenses in his time as Head of... . I can understand Leica wanting to avoid the 'cult of personality' to some extent.

It is the most politically correct answer a company can give, no doubt.

Yes. There would be no commercial advantage to them in giving out the information although of course they have it. I think as you suggest over time on LUF you could build a catalogue if there was interest in doing so. I very much doubt any of the named 'head of optics' (Mandler, Kolsch et al back to Prof Berek) were personally involved in every lens.

Nice rendering. How about distortion? Do you find it disturbing or managable in landscape architectural shots?

I see no distortion.
I even use it for portraits.
it’s just a brilliant, versatile lens. It only has one issue, which I dedicated a thread about.

May be you could flip the question to get closer........eg what lenses were produced by PK and his team when he was head of whatever?
