If you are asking me, yes and no.

Yes, I have a Gigapan toy but rarely use it. I simply don't like  the result, not to mention the set-up. But no, it's definitely not for travel light. I don't even like switching lens on the go. That's why I prefer two cameras to two lenses. 

In terms of panorama. stitching multi-shots or panning in camera would do it, but they are not the same as a one-shot wide angle. A 17mm or 12mm equivalent wide angle lens works much much better.

The Voigtländer 10mm f/5.6 is an amazing performer for not a lot of money, and does a superb job on APS-C, if you want an excellent ultra-wide. It nets a 15mm full-frame-35 FoV. :)

It's even reasonably priced. ...
