The air continued to clear as the eclipse progressed. I had brought two small telescopes - a 450mm f5 and 600mm f6 - and mounted both on a small German equatorial tracking mount. Glad I did because the moon was quite dark and exposures were longer than I was expecting. In the smaller scope I put the SL2-S. It connects to the scope using a 2" (48mm) open nosepiece (attaches where one would put the barrel of an eyepiece). The nosepiece has a Nikon bayonet mount so I use a Nikkor to L mount adapter. This set up does cause significant light fall off in the corners. In the other telescope I had a 6mp monochrome streaming camera which connects to a laptop. Normally, focusing this system is a dream, as I can watch the results in real time while I turn the focuser. But the integration time was very long - almost a second per frame so a two second per frame download rate was not very good for focusing.

The streaming camera captures gave me some contrasty luminance data to add to the color files from the SL2-S. I happened upon the occultation of a 6.2 magnitude double star by the moon (not something I had prepared for ahead of time). Below is a last eclipse post showing the double star at the moon's limb. And sorry for the long story, but perhaps there are some astro enthusiasts among my Leica friends. ;^)

clear skies,

Alan
