Ktsa5239 Posted November 20, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) A used M10-D popped up locally that looks like it’s in mint condition. But do you think there’s a chance of a 40MP version coming out in the future? Given it’s not all that much cheaper than the M10-R feels like I should just go straight to the M10-R instead. Advertisement Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 Hi Ktsa5239, Take a look here 40MP M10-D?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dkmoore Posted November 21, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) 🤠 No. Yes. Maybe. No-one knows. But probably not until the M11. Edited November 21, 2020 by dkmoore
Kwesi Posted November 21, 2020 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2020 I was under the impression that the D variant of the M has been discontinued by Leica.
scott kirkpatrick Posted November 21, 2020 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2020 What they call the "retirement" of the M10-D is a subject for intense debate, and I can only speculate. But my guess is that Leica management, who seem to personally be very sympathetic to the -D variants, know that they sell only to devoted Leicaphiles. So they have probably made as many as they can sell, and won't make any more until there is some way to put a 40 MPx chip inside, either as an expensive upgrade, or as an M11-D with other enhancements as well But I am sure they have other things to do first. So if you have found a clean, used M10-D at a good price, and you like working with it, get it. If you really love looking at 40 MPx images at 100%, then the -R will be more satisfying. Either one will hold its value for a long time, so this is an enjoyment decision, not an economic one. (full disclosure, I use both.)
Good To Be Retired Posted November 21, 2020 Share #5 Posted November 21, 2020 (edited) 17 hours ago, Ktsa5239 said: But do you think there’s a chance of a 40MP version coming out in the future? No. The M10-D is a niche product within a niche manufacturer. Not a big enough user base. Of course, they don't have any problem producing green cameras, or pre-worn out cameras so I suppose any sort of product is possible. In any case, you want to enjoy making photographs TODAY, not in some undefined future Given it’s not all that much cheaper than the M10-R feels like I should just go straight to the M10-R instead. Sounds like a solid plan to me. Edited November 21, 2020 by Good To Be Retired
cj3209 Posted November 28, 2020 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2020 I have a Q2 and the files are pretty large (around 80 mbs; 47 MP). I also just recently got an M10D and I don't think I want another 40MP+ camera. 24MP is just fine for me. The Q2 vs. M10D is like night and day; I enjoy them both. Fortunate to be able to use both. Happy Post-Thanksgiving! CJ 😝
