MP Frame line does not change.

Hi all!

As the title says the frame line of my MP is stuck at 35mm even though I mount 50mm lens.
I googled it and found out that it is so called "Sticky mask plate" issue. Apparently it can be repaired by leaving the body in a room with warm temperature.

I was wondering how warm should a room be and for how long I should leave the body in the required condition.
Has anyone managed to fix the issue? I am just thinking of sending the body to Wetzlar but I guess it would take a long time to get it repaired due to current situation. So I might just stick around with 35mm for now.

Thanks in advance.

Leo

+ what happens if you move the focusing ring back and forth for a few minutes?

I have a 75mm lens on my M7, which gets stuck on 35mm/135mm framelines when the lens is taken off and on, and/or when I play with the preview lever ......BUT if I turn the lens focus barrel back and forth for a few minutes, the incorrect 35/135mm framelines slowly fade away, and the correct 50/75mm framelines slowly appear at the same time!

It’s not a great solution for me, so I intend to send it to Germany for a proper overhaul.

In that case I'd suggest sitting in front of the TV one night and mount and dismount both your lenses and see if the framelines eventually unstick. Also try moving the preview lever back and forth repeatedly. Warmth can soften grease but I think a mechanical action is most likely to shift it. However if you want to give it a go consider how hot a camera can get on a Summers day and that Leica's can be used in very hot countries without any problems, so instead of making your room that hot just try putting the camera body next to a radiator for a few hours.

I experienced the exact same issue with my MP and tried moving the frame lever continuously to free it but it wouldn’t budge. I ended up sending it to my trusted repair shop to have them clean out the mechanism. The top plate has to be removed so I got them to give it a light CLA at the same time as I had a few little niggles that had appeared.
