Albert, this is a very nice image, but it could be even better when processed to suit the camera. The Q2M has a very wide dynamic range, which means that its output can look. a bit flat. In this  case I hit Auto in ACR and in PS - Levels set the black point on the bottom of the ball. Then I lifted the midtones minimally in Curves and applied Linear Contrast.

Please forgive my "too many posts" but Im just looking for some reactions and criticisms to my first photographs with my brand new Q2 Mono. Some of you have given me some good advice already, thank you. This is my first attempt in Macro mode.

I would have come in much closer so you could see more of the detail on the flower. The autofocus mechanism will tell you when you're too close. I would also consider spot focus for macro work and save to a "Macro" profile.

Working on Cranking up the contrast. Most people keep telling me more contrast, more contrast, more contrast, even my son.

Yes but not this way. Get exposure right in the histogram. Black point, white point and then open up the mid tones in Curves. Then if needed a tweak to the general contrast. Or use Silver Efex Pro.

A nice house, as far as I can see. The sky is OK but has some blown highlights The house appears to be exposed correctly. But the foreground is too dark and has lost structure, dominating the image. This image really needs work to open up the shadows.  The structure of the trees must be restored by a careful application of curves, especially a midtone lift and linear contrast.

You have been pleasantly instructive and patient with my lack of expertise. I take your advice to heart and am willing to learn. My best friend, used to introduce me:  “I would like to introduce you  to Al Gage, he is not too bright but he is teachable”. He was correct.

Very first shot with Q2M.  My iPHONE which has an ARCTERX logo on the back of it. Tomorrow, photo- adventure. My first impression is something so special that I can not express the feeling.  It is emotional.

Congratulations on your new camera, Albert.  I like the pictures you’ve posted further on.  While I agree, generally, with comments regarding contrast.I’m not one to male a meal of it.  Maybe just using the contrast slider in Lightroom would usually be enough.  For more difficult image you would probably need to follow the other advice you’ve been receiving!

Looks like you're having fun Albert, love these smiley faces.  I know I've never had the "eyes" for b&w,  a b&w film can sit in my camera for twelve months but I'm enjoying seeing your results.  If it's Silver Effex you have purchased, there is a lot to explore there.  As @Le Chef the Macro mode on the Q is amazing and so useful,  you can get much closer than your sunflower example, which is lovely anyway🙂.
