They can't be any worse than the hair remover that Leica give every T owner. :D

Gary

Yes Gary - Agreed - I have never seen a sadder excuse for a strap than the one that came with my T.  Plus , you can't just replace it - you have to order extra parts just to get real strap holders - come on Leica - Really?

We'll sound like a chorus of whiners but it is one of my bigger frustrations with the T. The strap is awful. Yes it works, but it's awful. And as you say, replacing it is a major cost if you want to do that. I ended up buying extra strap lugs, but there should be a simpler solution in the first place. Have you tried the equally bad wrist-strap? I did, and gave it away after a short time.

I also have the extra strap lugs, but I hate the fact they are not fixed and turn around!... Every time I want to use my leather strap, I have to turn each side to make it right!...

More lunacy, a stunning autumn day, got the section looking good even if it meant most of the afternoon on the ride-on mower.

Splendid moon was out, so after dinner I snapped this. Seeing was poor, but nice to just be able to get this.

T

1/200th sec

ISO400

10" f5 newt.

And to round off the evening, Jupiter is reasonably close-by, so I tried a simple prime focus snap, (at 1250mm focal length).

Usually for planetary shooting I up the focal length with a "Barlow", an image amplifier for want of a better description, usually I shoot at about 6000mm, and also use a small webcam, so a smaller chip.

Even if the desire had been there, the seeing (the atmosphere moving or not) was poor.

I know how frustrating it can be Gary to capture the best image, your moon shot is really clear, did you use a Barlow lens or was that straight attached to the Newt?

How are you attaching the T to the Newt, Nikon T Piece adapter>Leica_Nikon Adapter>Leica T?

I have contemplated using the video on the T for planetary and may well do so.

I only wish that the T had a bulb setting as I would use that for a lot of my Astrophotography, but I think from what I am told that Leica have a problem with the CCD getting hot on images longer than 30secs.

Have you tried some wide-field down in your neck of the woods to capture the Milky Way with the T, with your lack of light pollution is has to be a good shout?

John,

T, no Barlow (for both shots).

Adaption is 2" to T thread nose piece in focuser. Then an old T (T2 thread) to LTM adapter. This is attached to the M to T (camera) adapter using a LTM to M ring.

I usually use EOS fittings at the scope, then go EOS to M, and M to T. Most of this circuitous system is on account of my frugality, I could just buy an EOS to T adapter I suppose.

I tossed the T movie mode for planetary idea as I walked back to the house, but wondered how the heck I'd stack them, not sure if the stacking software would play with the T movie Codec. Might try it though.

Yes, a B setting would open up more opportunities, and there's no real reason, my prehistoric Fuji X-E1 has a B setting, and I've happily exposed 5-10 minutes.

I'll do some wide field shots when the moon is not present, I have an old Pentax 6x7 55mm and also a 200mm, they work well, although the 200 has a bit of CA.

I'd love to see side-by-side shots since I know you could, BBL, one with the "straight" T, the other with the I/R converted one. Same time, same subject, and if possible same lens.

Certainly something outta this world looking about the I/R shots.

Will try. Maybe in next few days as sunshine is predicted.
