Has anyone tried the TT 50 f/1.4 more thoroughly?

Does it arrive in good condition or is there a risk of having it new already with the dust inside like other cheap lenses?

More thoroughly than what? It's been extensively reviewed by several sources.

Mine arrived in excellent condition, and I haven't heard otherwise.

than has been done so far...having been announced just a few months ago.

I've read Bastiank's and Bosi's reviews, useful, but I would like to read some more impressions from those who bought the lens, possibly not only with M-cameras.

If you have a Facebook account there are quite a few groups out there with user reports:

- 7artisans & TTartisan lenses, User's Group

- TTArtisan

- Chinese Manual Focus Lenses

in addition to tons of Leica/M groups which often have mentions of them.

Unfortunately, I stopped using fb many years ago. Good to know anyway, thanks.

My opinion is that having a Leica M or SL and using Chinese lenses (patent trade mark ripoffs) defeats the purpose of shooting Leica. If it's a cost thing, then you should consider a different, but also excellent, brand like Fuji-X. This is what I shot before fulfilling a lifelong desire to own a Leica M. Fuji-X is the brand that still recommend to friends and family looking to upgrade their gear.

For me, if a bought a non-Leica lens to use on my M10, it would bug me that I really wanted a Leica lens. I would eventually buy the Leica lens and in the end, spend more money than just buying the Leica lens in the first place.

Buy used if you can't afford new. There are a lot of good Leica glass out there in the used marketplace. For me, buy once, cry once applies to my philosophy for my Leica system.

I wouldn’t tarnish all brands with the same brush, as I have found Voigtlander to be good and I don’t think they have been infringing. But otherwise I would agree, there’s a certain pleasure in using the real mcoy

I shoot M with some Chinese lenses because they have been designed with their own unique character which renders differently to the similar Leitz offerings.

But each to their own.

And the purpose of shooting with Leica is ... ?

Because I can. :)

Photography is a hobby and I always want to shoot a Leica. Since I have them, I'm hooked on the IQ and simple operation of the cameras. I don't shoot sports or moving objects, so high frame rates and super-fast autofocus in not something I need or will use.

My Leica M10, now M10-R with a Summilux 35 ASPH FLE and APO Summicron 50 make for a very compact and capable kit for my needs, travel and street.

Bud James

That's cool. Choices are great for consumers.

Having fun creating photos is the point regardless of gear preferences.

The same here, w/ the same words you used:

My Leica M10 with my Zeiss 35 Biogon, TT Charlatan and 50 Summicron make for a very compact and capable kit for my needs.

I think this is pretty impressive especially for a less than $400 lens.

Thanks!

From the reviews it looked to be about 90% of a Leica 50lux ASPH (which I’ve owned a few times) for 10% of the price so.. figured why not.
Alternately was considering the Voigtlander 50/1.2 (had the 40/1.2 which is excellent) which is probably 5-10% better at 2~3x the price.

So I still don’t understand the relationship between TT Artisan & 7 Artisans, but my experience across a handful of lenses is that TT Artisan seems to be more modern/technically focused whereas 7 Artisans seems more somewhat novelty/vintage/“look” lenses

There’s no relationship. Two different companies and different designs.
