as long as you don't crop the image that is taken at f/2 or faster - it's okay.

I tried a cheap 35/2 lens from China and found that it wasn't as good as I had hoped wide open. I sold it with full disclosure to its new and happy owner who is unlikely to use it wide open. It was ok stopped down. My point of posting is that you get, to an extent, what you pay for. Performance is going to be tested most where it is difficult to ensure - wide open and close up. And a cheap lens is cheap because production costs are low - cheaper labour costs and cheaper actual manufacturing costs. In my case I had the lens looked at by a very well known Leica repairer who confirmed that it had low possibilities of internal adjustment. So you get it as it arrives and whilst some adjustments may be possible, others are not. In essence the mechanics, whilst adequate, are built to a specification and the degree of adjustability and optimisation of the optic is limited. A friend is a lens designer. He tells me that testing during manufacture is a high part of lens cost. So if a manufacturer simply relies on a high level of accuracy during manufacture, with little check or adjustability during or after manufacture, you can get a great lens or a mediocre lens depending on tolerance and assembly - but the poor one may be difficult to adjust to make it better. I post this because whilst many Chinese built lenses are good, there is a reason why some are cheap. Sophisticated lenses require careful manufacture and no matter where they are made the principles of tight tolerances, careful assembly and constant testing and the need for built in adjustability will push prices up. All that said, if you are happy to shoot stopped down a bit then cheap lenses can produce great results.

75/1.25 7Artisans, Leica M9, Wide-Open.

I have an easier time focusing the Canon 85/1.5 than this lens, prefer the longer focus throw.

But it is doable

TTArtisan 21mm 1.5 in Lübeck. No distortion correction applied. I have seen sharper lenses and those with less distortion. But this one is pretty compact and has 1.5 aperture, which makes it more suitable for tours with only one lens.

I just received the new TT Artisans 50mm f1.4 and gave it a quick spin on my M8 today for a simple portrait assignment that will be used on the client's instagram feed.

These were shot at f1.4 and I'm quite pleased with the lens, especially for the cost. I have a cheap $10 Chinese UV/IR filter on it. I think that the filter produces a bit of a magenta cast and that a good BW or Leica filter should be more neutral.

I intend to do a side by side comparison using an M10 with the Leica 50mm f1.4 asph soon. I'm pretty confident that the differences will be minimal, but I guess we'll see.
