This little guy is a bit of a survivor. He had a bad head - tilt last year, and I wasn’t optimistic that he was going to make it. Thankfully he’s made an almost full recovery and is happier now than ever to raid all of my bird feed.

Typical for this area red sandstone cottage, the stone for which would have been quarried from the hillside behind.

Wonderful image. Makes me wonder if I really need to add the M10M?

I have the Q2M and love it. I’ve seen some reviews that say the conversions from color are not all that different compared to the output from monochrome sensors, but I disagree. On the Q2M, I can shoot wide open at f/1.7 at distance/infinity with perfect clarity and sharpness — looks like an APO lens on a color sensor stopped down to f/5.6.

I would say using an APO lens like Voigtlander and Leica offer on a color sensor might be better than a weaker or vintage lens on the M10M. But using APO on the M10M has got to be mind-blowing.

But one of the biggest reasons to go monochrome versus color conversion for me: on the Q2M I can stop down to f/5.6 using a light red filter (2.3 stops light reduction) and shoot a twilight landscape at higher ISO, and I looks like an ISO 100 shot from the M10-R. The monochrome sensor means I never have to worry about using a tripod since I can keep my shutter speed up with zero penalty to IQ. Since I already have the Q2M, I will probably wait for the M11M. Hopefully Leica will not introduce yet another battery to the M body — unless it’s maybe the SL/Q2 battery.

More quick experimentation with Summilux 50mm f1.4 ASPH on Leica M10-R. Shot wide open. BTW, I'm a newbie and I posted a message I wanted to delete, but unfortunately I could not find "delete" button anywhere. Is it not possible to delete your own messages here on this forum?

I think you ask the moderators to remove. But within short time frame you can edit, eg delete all of your post: don't know if you can remove attached pics though

For me, a Monochrom has more to do with mindset, seeing and workflow than file or print quality (online pics don’t do justice). I’ll keep my M10, but also a Monochrom for that special experience.

I did, however, rent the M10-M for a week and will replace my M9M with it. The better platform and viewing improvements make the overall experience far more enjoyable.  At higher ISOs, the M10M  files are cleaner and more malleable than the two generations old model, but that’s not my typical use case.  Otherwise I can make prints from either Monochrom almost indistinguishable, especially at my modest print sizes. M10 conversions are similarly superb, and with the added benefit and flexibility of color channels in post. Nevertheless, viewers can’t distinguish based on the camera. IQ is hardly limited for me with various modern gear, but other factors often matter more, provided no important downsides or sacrifices.
