I can't imagine the Sigma to be even sharper than the Leica R 100mm. But the lenses are not comparable. The Leica has a max magnification of 1:2 while the Sigma can do 1:1. The Sigma has autofocus, the Leica does not (how much that matters for macro I don't know...). 

I own the Leica and it's fantastic. But due to AF and me sometimes being lazy I often wonder whether I should also get the Sigma...

I have both lenses. IMO the Leica 100mm is probably one of the best R lenses ever made. The Sigma's possibly very slightly sharper due to the fact that it's designed for mirrorless & possibly some in-camera corrections. There's really nothing in it. 

As for AF, I think you're better off using MF for macro photography anyway.

comparing Apo Elmarit with Sigma 105mm. Both images were stacked in Photoshop. I could use the Elmarit some time ago and are using the 105mm Macro now so different images from different orchids....

Would the Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm f/2.8 ASPH be a good choice for the SL2?   I'd be down to CL size of course, but perhaps I'd still have that "Leica look" that I cherish.

Yes, but is a crop sensor lens, so you would essentially be lowering the resolution. If you are looking for a 100mm equiv Macro with AF and without an adapter, the Sigma 105mm DG DN is the better choice IMO

Did you find it easier to take a set of images to stack using the APO macro r as compared to the sigma?

No difference at all. I use the SL, so the stacking had to be done by adjusting the SL plus each lens on a nodal slide by hand.
