I never said they were the same camera.

The S1 and SL share DNA as do the S1R and SL2. Leica isn’t developing these cameras completely independently.

It doesn’t seem unreasonable that they would continue to have products that continue to share commonality with Panasonic’s L-Mount cameras.

If Leica has a new camera coming, it isn’t much of a stretch to think that it may not be unlike Panasonic’s new camera.

SL was light years before the S1, the SL was unique with nothing S1 in it

Absolutely not. Just by looking at them, they have nothing in common.

Leica is a big boy. They developed cameras by themselves way before Panasonic did. In fact, Leica is more than 100 years old and they invent the 24x36 format, the cold shoe (know as accessory mount or flash mount) and the first AF system. 

It is really the other way around, Panasonic needed Leica kind of seal of approval, by sticking the german name upon almost every lenses they sold. Even if Leica's input is close to zero.  

And remember that it is Panasonic and Sigma who joined the L-mount created and used by Leica since 2014. 

Last but not least : Leica is not a Panasonic subsidiary. Far from it. They only have a marketing agreement and a technology exchange platform.

R and S letters are kind of cool. S for speed, super, etc. R for racing, resolution, whatever.

S1, S1H, S5 use a Sony sensor and those usually come with thick cover glass. The SL2-S wont play well with M lenses then. That’s the reason Leica didn’t use that 36 MPx Sony sensor in the SL2 you were hinting at once. 😂

Oh come on, S stands for Selfie of course 😜. And since Leica don’t do articulated screens the lens mount and the display will be next to each other on one side and the other side will have the largest red Leica dot ever seen on a camera.

Cover glass has nothing to do with the sensor manufacturers. 

Nikon uses Sony sensor, with its own stack filter.

Same for Leica CL, using Sony sensor with its own thin stack filter.

IMX410CQK-C sounds pretty BSI to me.

But you're right, Z6 uses the same sensor but with a thin cover glass.

I thought that the S5 used the same sensor as the Sigma fp, which is BSI (and presumably sourced from Sony).

All 24 MPx FF mirrorless cameras out there, except from Canon, of course, seem to use some variation of the MX410CQK. But performance is not always the same. Z6 comes with OLPF, S5, S1H with dual native ISO.
