gettons Posted October 4, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 4, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello there, I have just noticed that in certain light conditions, the screen presents weird artefacts (similar to halo) around source of lights as well as around grey areas (such as the an overcast sky). Once the image is transferred to my computer it’s all good, and the dng is fine. But when I review it on the screen or use the live feature, this happens. Any thoughts? Welcome, dear visitor! paulsydaus Posted October 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 5, 2020 Is it evident in the jpeg if you shoot dng + jpeg? Maybe the onscreen previous are heavily compressed which might do this in situations like you show. Not seen it myself though.

The tiny little screen on your camera lacks the display capability found on your desktop computer. If it doesn't appear on the images after they are imported, ignore it and press on. So...I can confirm the final image is fine, so I suppose it's just how the camera display renders it. I am yet to try using dng+jpeg as per this recommendation though. Have you? sarkleshark Posted November 30, 2020 Share #7 Posted November 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I believe that If you are only shooting DNG and no jpeg, the camera still makes a low res image for the display that may have low res compression artifacts ton the screen that will not be in the DNG. If so, try shooting in DNG+Jpeg and see if the artifact is still there since the screen will now be showing a higher res jpeg. I had terrrible Moire artifact on screen until I noticed I was shooting only DNG .
jaapv Posted November 30, 2020 Share #8 Posted November 30, 2020 That is not specifically the camera "making" a low res jpg - it is part of the DNG standard to include a thumbnail. If the camera does not have its own JPG machine activated by shooting DNG only, it will use the standard DNG JPG.
sarkleshark Posted December 1, 2020 Share #9 Posted December 1, 2020 Thanks for the clarifications.
