Raw converter for Lumix S5

I have recently taken delivery of a shiny new Lumix S5. The problem is Lightroom will not read the RAW files, yet. While we wait for Adobe to issue an update, what RAW converter does anybody use for this camera? Affinity Photo will open them, but the colours are just weird, and I cannot get Affinity Photo to do anything much. Too many years with Adobe products. I have found a little program that reads the RAW files no problem: FastRawViewer, but this seems to be designed for initial culling before passing the files to a full on image processing program. It will not generate   a final image file. Finally there is ExifTool, where apparently the camera name can be changed to "Lumix S1" which is acceptable to Lightroom. However using this program seems to be some sort of black art that only computer programmers are party to.

Any help would be much appreciated, and I'm sure will be of use to many other Lumix S5 owners out there.

Cheers

Using ExifTool to rename the files is simpler than people think.

If you are using Windows, download the ExifTool executable file exiftool.exe (you'll probably need to unzip it after download). It will likely be placed in C:\software (I'm a Mac user, so don't know exactly). Click on the Windows "Start" menu in bottom left of your screen and go to Run to open the command line.  Type cmd c\. This should open the command window.

Change the directory to where the ExifTool .exe file is by typing cd C:\software and hit return. cd stand for change directory.

You should see in the command window now C:\software>. Type exiftool -Model='DC-S1' (don't forget to hit space once). Basically the command window should look like this C:\software>exiftool -Model='DC-S1' . Drag and drop all your S5 RAW files after the space into that line and hit return. That should do it.

Hi Chaemono, many thanks for your reply. I also am a Mac user. So, in Terminal I typed: "exiftool -Model=DC-S1 " without the quote marks, and them dropped a file into the terminal window, hit enter, and a duplicate file is created that Lightroom will read. Fantastic, thanks again.

You can drag and drop all the files at once, just to clarify.

Yes, thank you. Amazingly it works really well.

Looking forward to some pictures. Will you be using TL lenses with it? I find that the 35 Summilux-TL and the Summicron SL lenses work really well with that Sony sensor. Exposure is uneven with the point of focus always being a bit brighter than the rest of the picture. I had noticed this with the α7R III as well but the Sony lenses were kind of crap wide open to complement this phenomenon well. These Leica lenses, on the other hand, are stunners wide open. The shallower the DOF, the better this effect works, IMO.

Chaemono, unfortunately I do not have any TL primes. I am currently using the three TL zooms on my Leica CL. I also have the three new Sigma DC lenses for the CL as well as the Sigma 70mm DG macro. Initial thoughts are the DC lenses are surprisingly good on the Lumix S5 even though it uses the sensor in crop mode. Ignoring pixels, to images really do pop off the screen.

The weather in the UK over the last few days has been appalling, so I've not been out much. In theory I am going on holiday in a few days time, and provided that does not get cancelled like everything else, I hope to give the camera a good test then. Meanwhile, stuck indoors I have been copying a load of old family photos using the S5/70 macro combination & am very impressed with the results.

Finally, Adobe does now support Lumix S5, see https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html.
