Built for the Senator* Martin Johan Jenisch; Forsmann's first draft was given to Schinkel, who came up with a much larger building, which was too large for Schinkel's needs (after all, Hamburg is a merchant's city, showing off can be overdone and a Pfennig (penny) not spent, you know...), so Forsmann reworked his first, smaller draft using elements of Schinkel's proposal Classicism was certainly the style of the day, however, apart from the pretty ornate balcony railings, the result is almost austere. Thank you for your interest Stefan Edit - following a discussion in the Bar, the house was sold by the Jenisch family to the city and is a museum these days (owned by the Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg). * A Senator in Hamburg is the equivalent of a Minister in the other Bundesländern (states) Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 Hi StS, Take a look here Jenischhaus and Jenischpark (2 pictures). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StS Posted September 21, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted September 21, 2020 Jenischpark, Johann Heinrich Ohlendorff 1828. Before 1828, the area was used as a model farm by Caspar Voght; when sold to Jenisch, he commissioned Ohlendorff to convert it into a landscaped park. Since 1927, it is a public park. I like the flow of the hills to the Elbe river, which is actually a nice place for ship-spotting; the bridge visible belongs to the Katharina Schepers, registered in Cyprus. StS Posted September 21, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 21, 2020 ...as a side note, my recommendation for ship-spotting would be the „Marinetraffic“ app (no relationship to the company who programs it)... Schinkel's classicism is very restrained, very much like his Neuer Pavillon in Berlin. Thanks for posting.
