If anyone do not know about Unimog. Here is a picture of the portal axle from M-B.

  • 1 month later...

My kids (and I) are having a highly modified 1/10 scale 406 to teach them off-road driving. Has reduction gear, 4WD, high torque motor, diff-locks, winch which can tow the vehicles weight (about 4 kg) vertically, all RC equipment water sealed etc. I created a track for their Unimog driving license, they are pretty good in driving low speed. One day we´ll have to get this in fullsize they say, but as a convertible 😉

Always wanted one 🙂

Me too, unfortunately my private forest in the mountains is too small to justify one and it´s nature reserve now. Having an electric and eco-friendly one for the garden tracks is a good substitute so far. It climbs like a mountain goat with very sticky tyres. Rock crawling is pretty much fun for the whole family and you can try things you wouldn´t do with your Land Rover 😉

If  you like a more practical M-B for off-road driving and especially winter driving there is nothing better than the W124 4-Matic in my opinion. It is a 3-WD with higher ground clearance than the normal W124. The ground clearance is the limitation, otherwise it is very capable. Modern passenger cars with their electronic differentials can not compete in snow or ice.
