Popular Post HuntingSand Posted September 10, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 10, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) On account of the fires all over California right now, there was no sun to be had today. Instead, it was one diffuse, orange-yellow blanket of soot, ash and smoke that covered all of San Francisco and the cities across the Bay. Spooky, and a nightmare for white balancing any digital camera. The following are processed DNGs from the TL2 with the 35 Lux on Auto ISO. I went out around 9:30am and spent all morning shooting. It looked like it was evening graced by a late-stage pacific sunset, except it wasn't. Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted September 10, 2020 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2020 That situation is really spooky. I have a good friend who lives just north of the city and he's been sending images like yours showing the bright orange sky at mid day. He loves the images but says he needs an N-95 mask to go out.
pedaes Posted September 10, 2020 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2020 Amazing set. Thanks for posting. Just heard on sports news they are forecasting 43°C for LPGA event in California!

Thanks for checking in, your friend is acting prudently. Ironically, the AQ wasn't that bad yesterday, at least on the PM2.5 scale: 49 read my phone APP. On the other hand, my car was covered with ash and soot (PM10 and larger) particles, so an N95 mask was probably a bit overkill. That was yesterday. Today, the PM2.5 for the East Bay stands at over 150, everything that was suspended high above creating that orange glow has now descended onto street level. We could use a bit of rain now, that's for sure.

People here have learned to deal with the fires, but sometimes it's just too quick and unpredictable, they can trap folk that prefer to live off the grid as well as an entire town within minutes, and then it gets really dicey. Firefighters are the real deal in California, all 14,000 of them, but the state is huge and geologically complex.
