Chaemono Posted August 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 30, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm convinced that lenses matter not only for detail resolution and tonality but also add to the DR of a camera. This is part of a series I call "The APO stopped down a bit" on the M10-P where I will post pictures captured with that combo at f/2.8 to f/5.6, I think. I don't have an M10-R to compare but I will occasionally use the S3. I'm planning to upsize most of the M10-P images to at least 40 MPx. Let's show the first vs. the S3. I tried to match them with an equally amount of contrast (+5), structure (+10), and sharpening (+40) in LR. This is not the best example to show the advantages of a MF sensor but if one looks closely, the S3 captures the tonal gradation in the middle tones better but the M10 combo with the APO stopped down a bit holds its own. Advertisement Posted August 30, 2020 Posted August 30, 2020 Hi Chaemono, Take a look here An APO a day can keep the M10-R and the S3 away. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chaemono Posted August 30, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted August 30, 2020 Let's do the next one. This is with contrast +5, structure +10, and sharpening +40 in LR. I'm including a link to download the DNG so that anyone interested can see for her- or himself how incredible the APO 50 Summicron stopped down a bit is. Chaemono Posted August 30, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2020 I just posted one really dark picture captured with the combo and treated with Topaz DeNoise AI here: https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-F6NRmF/ APO 50 Summicron with Topaz DeNoise AI and the M10-P is the last camera you'll ever buy. Guest Nowhereman Posted August 30, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 30, 2020 ^ Well, I'm not about to run out and trade in my M10 for an M10-P, nor an M10-R.____________________Frog Leaping photobook

Awfully close indeed. And with the M10-P's "small" 24mp sensor. This is the strongest argument I have yet seen for investing in the megadollar 50 APO lens. It would be great to see what an M10R with a 50 APO could do vs. the S3 with the 70 Summarit.

dkmoore Posted August 30, 2020 Share #9 Posted August 30, 2020 Problem is I need to buy a second APO because the M10M hogs it!
tom0511 Posted August 31, 2020 Share #10 Posted August 31, 2020 To me the S3 image looks more 3d than the M10 image. Specially the guy in the foreground. But thats only my impression and its just a screensized image. The 50APO though I also find a fantastic lens. It is indeed my fav and most used M lens. I don't think I have the same Leica fund that you do... Four Monochroms and many others, I remember..ha!🤠🤠
