ymc226 Posted August 12, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 12, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I needed to remove the Leica logo to adjust the rangefinder and if there is not enough residual adhesive left to secure the logo back on, what type of adhesive would one consider? Is there a very thin adhesive sheet (sticky on both sides) that one could get aside from double sided sticky tape?

jaapv Posted August 13, 2020 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2020 Normally the adhesive is reusable. I general, any double-sided sticky tape is fine.
250swb Posted August 13, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 13, 2020 (edited) Not double sided Sellotape or other 'film' based tape. The best without doubt would be double sided carpet tape, typically it's sort of a beige colour. Its thin and very flexible and very sticky and remains so for a long time. Don't cut it to the very edge of the logo, just a bit inside the overall diameter. Cutting a disc is easier if you cut a square first and put the sticky side onto grease proof paper or similar to form a temporary double backing. Cleanup is with white spirit. pedaes Posted August 13, 2020 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could try a small spot of Black Tack (Black not Blue - the industrial strength version). Easy to remove and refix.

Mikep996 Posted August 13, 2020 Share #9 Posted August 13, 2020 I thought all the "REAL Leica Photographers" covered the logo with black electrical tape anyway! Just put it back, tape over it; done! Easy to remove when time to re-align! I'm not a real Leica photographer so I used a "dot" of Elmer's rubber cement.

Thanks Steve, that is something I never thought of. May I ask why not to use regular film based double sided tape? I did find this cloth carpet tape locally. Is this what you described? Film based tape like Double sided Sellotape tends to become brittle and dry over time, think maybe of a Sellotape sealed cardboard box that has spent a few years in the garage. That type of carpet tape is what I am thinking of. It is insanely 'grabby' so use the technique of applying the dot to the camera with a film of very dilute water and shampoo solution, place the dot on the camera and the water will allow you to position it square, press and let the water dry, then press again to finally fix. Gentle heat will soften the tape to get the dot off again should you need to, and again use white spirit to clean up.

I donated all my dark room gear last year.
rramesh Posted August 14, 2020 Share #13 Posted August 14, 2020 (edited) Just keep it in the box. Folks pay more for a camera with no logo. 😀 Edited August 14, 2020 by rramesh
Rob L Posted August 14, 2020 Share #14 Posted August 14, 2020 (edited) Any kind of tape will be too thick and cause the dot to be proud of the camera. I would use a tiny bit of sticky tak. This is the stuff they use to attach your new credit card to the paper correspondence you get in the mail. There are several varieties, just make sure it is reusable and does not harden. Or low strength rubber contact cement. Edited August 14, 2020 by Rob L
rjsphd Posted August 28, 2020 Share #15 Posted August 28, 2020 Warning: I foolishly used gaffer tape on my Leica SL and when removed, pulled paint out of the Leica lettering. That will cost me dearly as I seek to sell the camera. Haven't used tape on my M10, as it is silver, but I have used simple black masking tape on previous Leica's without this problem. Just replace the paint with a lacquer stick. It’s very simple.

In my opinion, the common double sided Scotch is enough Search for this on Amazon or at you local stationary shop: Scotch Double Sided Tape with Dispenser, Narrow Width, Engineered for Holding, 1/2 x 250 Inches This tape is is very durable, does not get brittle and will last longer than the camera. other kind of double sided tape could dry and could be not suitable. ymc226 Posted September 1, 2020 Author Share #20 Posted September 1, 2020 I used carpet tape as Steve suggested and it worked perfectly. I stuck a small piece of tape onto the backside of the logo, flipped it over and covered it with wax paper so the exposed sticky side around the front of the logo was protected. I then used a very sharp hobby knife and cut around the edge making sure I angled it in so as to make the sticky part smaller than the logo.
