Just came from Latvia on assignment and got me a little souvenir... noticing how similar their Laima chocolate company logo is to Leica's. What do you think? Does any other company have a similar logo?

The 'red dot' was a common way to attract attention in the nineteen twenties in Germany in a crowded marketplace said my father who was in advertisement there at that time.

And the writing is also typical for that time.

By the way, who is the owner of the red dot now? [Leica camera is said to have a license to use it. Certainly I don't feel ownership even as addicted user].

They may have had the logo since 1870...

My first thought, too, but after a very small amount of searching it appears that the 'Laima' logo was redesigned in 2016;

I've also heard that Leica originally wanted to call the camera for "Leca" (LEitz CAmera). But because this name was adopted only a few years earlier, they had to put in an "i" to distinguish them. Their logos are also very similar.

I'm glad Leica didn't adopt the colors though. 😉
