Because of the strong wind, smaller tree species tend to survive.

By grazing sheep and goats, this cultivated landscape was created after the forest was cleared.

Andreas, I enjoy this set.  I had many visits to Wildflicken and the surrounding area for Army training exercises.  The country was beautiful and peaceful in the spring and summer.  That was 44 years ago.  Part of my vacation plan for this year was to fly to Frankfort and motor to Fulda, Wildflicken, Wolbach, Bad Neustadt, Bad Konigshofen, and then Bad Kissengen.  Hopefully 2021 will be better for travel.

By the way, Wildflicken in the winter was the coldest place on earth.  It seemed the wind never stopped.
