anickpick Posted August 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 5, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) According to Leica and some reviews, the file size for DNG should be in the range of 40 to 60 MB, depending on resolution and picture content. However, the resulting file sizes I get are in the range of 84 to 86 MB. Lossless compression seems not to be working... Advertisement Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Hi anickpick, Take a look here M10-R - file size / lossless compression not working?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2020 I'm getting 40 to 60 MB files, with the latest firmware. I've seen the same sizes with the immediately previous firmware (newest = 10.20.27.xx, previous = 10.20.23.yy) What firmware are you using?. Are you putting out DNG + JPG?

This is puzzling... I am using the newest firmware (10.20.27.20) and am putting out DNG only.

It could be that camera is embedding big JPG image into the DNG file.
elmars Posted August 5, 2020 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2020 Perhaps lossless compression is only available in Lightroom not out of camera like in the M9.
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 5, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 5, 2020 No I looked at the files accumulating on my M10-R's chip, which have never tasted Adobe's intoxicants. Here's a test. I shot the least amount of information that I could think of putting into an image -- f/22@1/4000 with the lens cap on, ISO 100. The resulting file was less than 18 MB.

Something odd in the data flow.... before involving Leica CS I'd make another test... I have not the M10R, but at the first times of using my M240, I observed some strange behaviors in file size from different SD Cards... 🤥 strange but consistent... and If I remember well (was several years ago, of course) even had a similar oddity.. a "no info" image which took the maximum size... anickpick Posted August 5, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted August 5, 2020 I just did a reset of the camera - and am now getting compressed, smaller files. Problem solved. Thanks to all!
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 5, 2020 Share #12 Posted August 5, 2020 When Leica urged everyone to update firmware before leaving the store, they included the directive to do a reset after installing. I guess it was important. I hope they don't need to require it in future firmware upgrades.
