Leica R3 needs DOF lever pressing to fire

Hi all,

When I press the shutter release button on my R3 the mirror raises part way really slowly and I have to press the dof preview leaver to make it complete its travel and then the shutter fires and the mirror snaps back home, does anyone have any thoughts on what the cause could be?

many thanks in advance.

Hi, I initially posted on that thread but it’s so old I didn’t think there was much hope of a reply.

It's always annoying when someone starts a thread with a problem but never bothers to post the outcome, so often searching old threads ends up like that.

I don't know the answer but suspect that the mechanism needs a CLA. If no parts are broken then it should be doable by any tech, but as I mentioned I think in that other thread the cost may be more than the value of the camera (but surely still worth it).

Sorry what’s “CLA” ?

Clean, Lubricate and Adjust. In other words, a decent camera service.

Thanks 👍
