As yet, I've neither run across an appropriate scene nor read a competent review of the new SCs so while I hope and expect that its navigable, arriving at a fully satisfying B&W result remains elusive. I'm in no rush, especially given my COVID photo doldrums. I'm generally satisfied, given the current state of b/w digital, using my P800 with current camera gear (MM, M10 and SL2). ImagePrint is still awaiting a P900 from Epson for development testing, last anticipated in August. I wouldn't make any printer switch without IP support, even with good reviews. John Pannozzo (head of Colorbyte/IP) doesn't put much into the 'wet black' advantages discussed with the new machines, as it really didn't do much in the larger format Epson P7570 that IP tested. And as I've written before, since the P900 is a new platform, I'll want to be sure that there aren't any surprises regarding the new feed mechanism or head clogs due to 'improved' nozzle/head efficiencies, regardless of any other output improvements. Kevin Raber says he's finished his P700 review, so it should be posted at Photo PXL in the near future. Jeff

The trouble is, there aren't many games left on this particular side of town. If not a P900, whither? Space issues mean that I'd likely have to soldier on at a local max of A3+ until I retire and move further west to a domicile more capable of accommodating of a 24" in a dark corner somewhere. I freely admit considering the purchase of something a bit more spectacular, especially given how I'm now awash in excess pixels. But this desire is accompanied by one of those rare flashes of clarity. The kind where I fully recognize that entertaining anything much beyond the physical size of the P900 ensures suffering an El Kabong moment at the hands of my better half. If you’re not already using the P800, you might find one somewhere with a bit of digging, including refurbished. The P5000 is another 17” printer, which has extra orange/green inks, auto matte/gloss black switching, etc, without going full bore 24 inch floor model. But it weighs over 100lb and has a bigger footprint than the P800, let alone the P900. Canon is another option (also supported by IP for some models). Jeff S Posted July 29, 2020 Share #25 Posted July 29, 2020 Nowhere to go but up! Any of the recent Epsons, or the Canon Pro models, should delight by comparison. Jeff
