M10-R firmware bug and new firmware release

For those new M10-R owners who notice a red cast or other obvious issue on all photos taken with their new cameras, don’t worry—reseting the camera using the “Reset Camera” menu option, followed by turning it off and on, seemed to fix the issue, which was present in multiple new-in-box M10-R bodies I tested this morning.  There is also a July 16, 2020 firmware release (version 10.20.27.20) that is available here: https://en.leica-camera.com/Corposite/Service-Support/Support/Downloads?category=93710&subcategory=&type=108942&language=93871

Look for: FIRMWARE (10.20.27.20) LEICA M10-R

which I presume may also fix this issue. The M10-Rs in my local store have a box date of July 6, 2020, and predate this newer firmware.  The boxed M10-R cameras came with the older firmware 10.20.23.49.  I wonder if older vs newer firmware could also explain some of the divergent findings in some of the early M10-R reviews.

The buggy firmware shows up in some press photos.  I looked at the DNGs available on DPReview's site, and they were using that edition.  Jono Slack's shots that I was processing earlier today were made with the more recent firmware.  Somebody rushed a bit, but this can certainly get sorted out.  I wonder if this is what happened to the Phoblographer?  My earlier guess would have been that he didn't notice that he was shooting under sodium vapor streetlamps, but this could also have given the problems he mentioned.

I don't think it is disappointing QC - this isn't a new thing - they have been working on the colour for some time with several firmware iterations; the reason I didn't talk about it in my review was that I was aware of a problem - and I was also aware that Leica felt that it was fixed with new firmware and sensor calibration (which I did not have).

To be honest, I don't think it's been a big problem for quite a long time, but the phoblographer report brought it to a head (even though I'm pretty sure his problem was more to do with sodium lights at night). 

I now have a camera with 10.20.27.20, and I'll be putting it to test as much as possible (no sodium lights where I am in West Cornwall though!). I sent Scott Kirkpatrick some fairly difficult high ISO DNG files and he thinks they're okay (and has posted to that effect).

I also think they're okay in Lightroom.

Just received my copy late this afternoon and did in fact have to update the firmware. My production date was 6/25.
