Dennis Posted July 20, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 20, 2020 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I have a doubt. I feel very comfortable using the 50mm FL, but I would prefer to not seeing the 75mm frame lines, they hinder me a little. If you shoot with a 35, the 35-135 combo doesn't bother me. But if shoot 50, the 75 frame lines are in my way, and they don't help in anyway. Is there nowadays a solution? Do I have options, tricks? A hack, a service, painting something with a sharpie 😂 The point is (let's say) I would like to eliminate it permanently. With Leica M, I don't need and want any FL longer than a 50mm. So don't worry about how the camera will be after the hack. My M10 is very custom and taped. The more I can personalize it, covering or adding functional stuffs, the more I like it and enjoy using it. Does it make sense? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Mark T Posted July 20, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 20, 2020 You used to be able to change the fame line masks through the a la carte programme. For instance, my MP has 35-50-90 frame lines only and it's great. I am not sure if Leica still offer this service, or what is possible on the M10 (which may have LED lit frame lines?). Possibly worth speaking to a non-Leica service person too, as they often have unconventional ideas. There are solutions for most problems. The only question is how much you are willing to spend. Good luck with it!

It's ideal like this I guess. I will investigate more. Good to know it's possible. Hopefully someone posts links/contacts or feedback of their ideas/solution.

Good luck with it! The M240 and M10 still have the traditional frame line masks; only the illumination has changed from natural light (window in front of camera in earlier models) to led lighting. The mechanical masks are much the same as shown inside the M8... Jeff 1
helohe Posted July 20, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 20, 2020 If you only need to hide framelines, then someone competent enough can open the rangefinder mechanism for you and mask the non needed framelines with small strips of tape, then reasemble and recallibrate it.

That would be great. Who can do this? I'll investigate. Once I'll have change to travel abroad I can take advantage of the trip and find someone to do the job. Is it difficult? or risky? They might also have some cut-outs to alter frame lines. Don Goldberg (DAG) has done similar work, but he won’t with the M10 since he says only Leica has the necessary software to check to make sure nothing goes wrong in the process, as it can be a delicate process.
