Every issue with the M10-R is better discussed in Andreas' video linked above.  Stephan Daniel is relaxed (doesn't have his boss sitting next to him making weak jokes), and there are points about the new sensor design and the double (but still only 0.9 mm) cover glass design that were probably not made known to Jono Slack or Sean Reid, who have otherwise had the most time to spend with the new model.   The subtitles are clear (and the German is pretty easy to follow).  Go there for more information.

I think the S3 appeared in the Kaufman formal video because of the role of the S3in getting the new sensor design, but that point was lost in the unrehearsed interview that they held.

I enjoyed the first half of the unveiling (at least the S3 had reason to be part of the presentation regarding its sensor, after that it became merely a distraction) and cringed throughout the second half. I wouldn't say Christoph Waltz was the worst person to bring on - he seemed quite keen to talk about cine lenses (probably his line of work anyway) and the Q, as well as being at Leitz Park. And there were many ways to bring his enthusiasm back to the M10R, for example speaking of resolution, clarity, how the M10R brings more details, has the tactile feel of the cine glass, and how this is like the using an M, M 0.8 lenses, the size and form factor of the M10R and parallel to the Q2, etc).

Of course it didn't help that Christoph's answers to the questions he was asked lead to dead ends in that they didn't lead back to the M10R in some way, and it didn't help maybe he felt like the Leica brand was being forced upon him every 5mins.

I'm more curious what edge the M10M has over the M10R. The jump in resolution is not as great as 40mp bayerless vs 24mp bayer, and high iso wise, useable ISO 12500 (and possibly higher when converted to B&W) is plenty...how often do we shoot ISO 50,000 anyway?

I enjoyed the bit where they discussed the difference between 28mm and 29mm lenses.  I hope the difference between 24 and 40 megapixels is more visible than that.  😂

One is 'de minimis' and other is? Should we 'non curat' or should that be 'non curam'?

Leica said no one needed more than 24mp and now Leica says 40MP is much better and you won't be able to go back. 🙄

The reality is very few people need more than 24mp, but Leica are in the business of selling cameras.

I seriously wonder if I will ever buy a Leica again after this embarrassing cabaret. What have they been smoking before?

Two non-professional presenters speaking in a foreign language live is not an easy thing to do. Despite of what I’ve written above I hope Leica learn from it.

I think it would have been a lot better without the surprise guest, who brought nothing to the proceedings apart from embarrassment to this viewer.

The reality is every other manufacturer has increased resolution offerings over 40MP long ago because it's better. Like Leica now admit.

How is it better other than giving you the opportunity to make big crops? I’ve produced acceptable A2 prints with an M8.

Pixel count is an easy marketing headline.

More resolution is MUCH better. More detail looks much nicer aesthetically, more real, more crisp, more crop, less artefacts in smaller prints.

Acceptable A2 is not nearly as good as exceptional A2.

If you get acceptable results for you with your M8 why don't you just use your M8? Why would you expect everyone else to constrain their results on your level of acceptability?

24MP are MORE than enough for standard print sizes, unless you crop and crop there is no point going beyond that. If that's the case why don't getting a Fuji with 100MP? costs basically the same than this 40mp marvel.

Eh? There is a big market for something between 24 and 100MP in small package, that is absurd to say you have choose  just one or other. Also M Lens work not well on Fuji. And who says it has to be about printing only? I have a 4K monitor and enjoy looking at high resolution pictures. They look MUCH better and have a lot more flexible use. M is favourite system and want high resolution because it looks so much better. This idea of acceptable is mediocre.

More pixels is better graduations and tone and more pixels for more accurate colours. Higher resolutions is MUCH better.

You forgot 'lex'. I was trying to transfer a legal term to Leica developments with the help of my friend m9reno who is an expert in such matters.

I wanted a full frame sensor.

I didn’t want to use the IR cut filters.

It developed a fault that would have cost almost as much as the camera was worth to repair.

I wanted to use the GPS capability of the M240 - there are apps and programs that you can use to embed the GPS coordinates in a DNG file, but they’re a bit of a kludge, and I’d found them unreliable.

When I replaced it I’d used the camera for around 10 years, so I’m not someone who lusts after the ‘newest and greatest’ - I bought my M240 used.

Ignorance is more mediocre (or bliss for some lol) I guess you are not familiar with pixel resolution or what downsampling means.

Your 4k screen won’t be able to reproduce more than its nominal resolution of 3840x2140 pixels (8mp) so anything beyond will get downsampling. An 8K monitor display has an 8000x4000 pixels resolution (32mp). BTW Megapixels has nothing to do with color fidelity. I still have to find a sensor with better colors than the 12mp Canon 5D ;)

☺️ Well, could also be “praetor” ... 😃

Thanks, William, kegon.

I think the gloriously multilingual Mr, Waltz would probably say: “de megapixelibus non curo."  😂
