darylgo Posted July 9, 2020 Share #62 Posted July 9, 2020 The 50's and 60's were a good time. I gotta try the coke float, could be a good subject for a Noctilux.

These days, I use a Nikon Z7 with my M and R glass. Compared to an M10, double the resolution and about a third of the price. I did go back to my M8s and M9s last week to check for failing LCDs (M8 - none) and sensor corrosion (M9 - none) and I was shocked to be reminded of what we thought was state of the art 10-15 years ago... A day rarely goes by when I don't think the Z7 isn't the best way to go in digital....But whenever I try one, i feel like a jet pilot looking at all that digital info. The 2nd best UI after Lecia, but, to my mind, a very far 2nd.

Guinness light sounds as awful as Cherry coke!! This, of course, is one of those 'real men' issues. There was a concoction called Black Velvet which consisted of Guinness and Champagne or Sparkling Wine and maybe that still exists. That was/is a real crime against humanity and a waste of good Guinness. Another one was Guinness and blackcurrant. Can you imagine putting Ribena into Guinness? I cannot comment on cherry coke as such a thing has never passed my lips. What has this got to do with a new Leica? Like Guinness Leica is all about the tradition and being 'real'. Whatever 'it' may be, let us hope we can find some of that tradition in there somewhere. William

erl Posted July 10, 2020 Share #68 Posted July 10, 2020 My risk, I get that this is a 'gear topic', but speaking personally, my photography has been surpassed by the level of equipment technology long ago, so I have trouble seeing the point of me getting 'even better' cameras. I have the M10 and a slew of other beauties, but how do they improve my images? In my time I have won an award or two, but honestly I have to declare that those prizes could have been won using a box camera! On the other hand, nobody loves a new toy better than I do, so where is the balance? For me, it is in the bank. 😁😇 8
scott kirkpatrick Posted July 10, 2020 Share #69 Posted July 10, 2020 I'm hoping that the half dozen people in line ahead of me at my dealer will look at the new camera and say "more MPx, but what else, meh" and walk away. Then the one which makes it across the pond in the first month will be MINE!

It was a popular ‘thing’ long before Coca Cola formalized it. No surprise I haven’t had a cola drink of any kind since my teens. Jeff You have lost me! As a European, I don't know what cherry syrup, snow cones or fountain soda are ... 1

typ3656 Posted July 10, 2020 Share #73 Posted July 10, 2020 I don't know why I decided to manually (in my head) figure out what time this launch party would be in Melbourne, Oz. Took me for-ever. LocalHero1953 Posted July 10, 2020 Share #75 Posted July 10, 2020 I was given a root beer on my first visit to North America (Alberta) in 1979. I chose to leave the continent immediately and not return for a quarter of a century. 2
Mikep996 Posted July 10, 2020 Share #76 Posted July 10, 2020 I agree with ERL (POST 68). Frankly my first DSLR after selling all my Leica film gear, a Nikon 6MP D100, was able to do everything I needed for my skill level! I look at pics today that I took with it and UNLESS I heavily crop/pixel peep, frankly the same subject shot with my M10, my Nikon D5300 (24MP) or my Olympus OMD M1s (16MP) doesn't produce a "better" picture. So if the 6MP D100 did everything I needed, why have I purchased more cameras? Because I WANTED to! It's certainly not because I "needed to!" I'm back with Leica because I like using the M Leica better than I like using any other digital camera I've owned or 'tested.' So, since I don't need a "better camera," I am anxiously awaiting the R, or better yet, the 11 so I can rush out and buy one! Hopefully they won't have screens on the back! (sarcastic). When I go to Cork I usually stay in the Imperial Hotel and visit Canty's Bar, down the side street beside it, to have a drink with a friend from Douglas. I usually order a pint of Murphy's as I am not on 'home territory', but my friend from Douglas always orders a pint of Guinness. I might add that my mother came from Youghal, which some people in Cork City might regard as being in Waterford. I am bringing the LHSA group on a trip to the Guinness Brewery when they visit Dublin, probably in 2022. It was to have taken place next year, but Covid has put everything back. You would both be most welcome to join us on the trip and I am sure that I can find you both a nice pub in Dublin that serves Murphy's or Beamish. pgk Posted July 10, 2020 Share #79 Posted July 10, 2020 "It’s time to reimagine what’s possible. Are you ready? Our livestream starts soon. Hear from Canon Ambassadors and experts about our biggest product launch yet." Does this sound like hype? I now tend to treat all product launches the same way - they are basically incremental adjustments to specification and have little if anything to do with photographic possibilities. At least Leica includes the spoiler suggesting that their new product is not overly different from the existing M10 as it is part of that 'family'. For my photography I still struggle to see why I should upgrade my M9s (I'm not). They deliver what I want which is actually what a camera needs to do.
