hillavoider Posted July 10, 2020 Share #83 Posted July 10, 2020 So a 40mp M10 for same price as M10M .... wouldn’t a SL2 make more sense... ibis is really really good

Those who will buy anything so long as it is new and those who have to be convinced. As for 40+ Mp some may have to factor in a new computer. I know about this as I have used cameras with 40+Mp. They are not where my real interest lies , though. I will buy anything so long as it is old. My recent run of purchases are from the 1860s, 1890s, 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. I sense that some people here are approaching next week's launch with the same anticipation that I feel before a vintage camera auction. In case anyone gets superior about the 'collector/non user' issue, last week I shot a roll of film that was 65 years old with a camera that was 92 years old. I am lining up shoots next week with cameras from 1922 and 1933. I already have an M10 and it is an excellent camera. It will be interesting to see where the advantage for users lies in more Mp, if that is what the Leica announcement is about. In my experience 40+ Mp is an aid to cropping, but on normal full frame pictures it is hard to tell the difference, unless you are going to make prints the size of a barn door. I'll get back to my old cameras. William 4

Then the one which makes it across the pond in the first month will be MINE! How long ago did you add yourself to the list?

FlashGordonPhotography Posted July 10, 2020 Share #90 Posted July 10, 2020 I'm on the non-existent list at my local Leica store for the "just in case it's a new camera" announcement. 40mp+ interests me greatly as would adding a touch screen to my M10 (skipped the P). If you can print big, like I can, then more resolution is handy although without IBIS very careful technique will be required. I have been looking for a colour sibling to my M10M. Hopefully this will be it. I can always say no if it's not what I want. Gordon

I can’t imagine having one now. But then I’ve since discovered affogato ... Whipped cream on a spider??? 🙀Never! Creaming soda spiders were popular too 😸 but don’t confuse bright red creaming soda for the very different creamy soda, which was always a disappointment 😿 As for affogato, that’s definitely an improvement. As for the new member of the M10 family, there’s no point in speculating in what it will or won’t do; at this stage the design is probably finalised and unlikely to be modified between now and the big reveal. I can be patient. I just hope that it will be such a massive game-changer that the market is flooded with secondhand six-month old (but now embarrassingly out of date) M10[...] cameras at bargain prices. a.noctilux Posted July 11, 2020 Share #92 Posted July 11, 2020 For a couple of days, I see that some people sell their almost new M10/M10-P (even SL/SL2) while waiting this M10-R ⁉️. Incredible, or perhaps those people know what we don't.
scott kirkpatrick Posted July 11, 2020 Share #93 Posted July 11, 2020 I've sold an M10 which I had for 3-4 years, and got good use out of. But it was not being used. M10-D got all the work in the past year.
sillbeers15 Posted July 12, 2020 Share #94 Posted July 12, 2020 I’ve sold my M10 last December in anticipation for a 40MP M coming. Taking delivery of an SL2 last November and happy with it drove my decision to let go my M10 then.
Tailwagger Posted July 12, 2020 Share #95 Posted July 12, 2020 Cant remember exactly when I got on the list. I think it was mid-last year when the M10X rumors first surfaced. Re-iterated my interest in January when the M10M was announced. Was told, last week that I was near, if not top of the list. Frankly, I wasn't expecting the camera to surface until late this or early next year. Likely I'll trade my 240 and M10 for it. Similar to Sillbeers, I am quite happy with the SL2 from a results standpoint, but in my case I've found after 9 months and some 12k frames, that I miss the more deliberate nature of the M, not to mention the ability to carry a three lens kit in a Hadley digital at about the same weight as the SL2 with a single Summicron.

I completely agree. At my typical print sizes, 24 Mpx is more than sufficient. That said, my SL2 experience has convinced me that having the flexibility to perform a significant crop is quite valuable. The ability to treat a shorter prime as a longer one has been an important addition to the tool kit. Not merely to reduce the numbers of optics one lugs around, but for its impact on DoF as well. One gains some interesting perspectives that otherwise would not be achievable. 3
