What is your SL lens line up?

I shoot a wide range of subjects from portraits, family photography to cars and landscapes.

My first lens was the 75mm for portraits and car photography.

I have the 50mm cron arriving soon that should be great for most scenarios.

I'd like to get the 35 cron by years end to complete my line up.

What's your lens line up?

The three SL-zooms (where the 24-90 is by far the most used lens I have and the one I pick up if I only go out with one lens), plus SL-75mm and Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary. I think the SL16-35 plus SL-75mm makes a good and flexible twin. I guess I will expand with one of the SL wide angle primes when these emerge, possibly the SL-21mm.

For lots of walking, just the 35 and 75 SL-SCs.  For squeezing in an hour in an interesting place to see what I can find, either the SL-SC 50 or the 35.  I have the 16-35 and 90-280, but only take them along in the car when I know that they will fit the target that I am headed for.

Well, this is a bit embarassing ...

For a one-lens solution, e.g. a hike, my SL 24-90 is the Swiss army knife of lenses. For landscapes or events I will add the SL 90-280. In a backpack.

For citylife, portraits, etc. I will bring the SL 35 and 75 combo. If I travel by car all four SL lenses come along. Definitely in the backpack!

If I need compact I will bring a trio of M-lenses, either 24, 35 and 75 or 28, 50 and 90.

When I feel in a nostalgic or playful mood then it will be the R 21-35 zoom, Olympus OM 50 and 100, and Zeiss Contax 80-200mm.

Currently, 16-35mm Lumix, Sigma 45mm and 135mm ART, 35mm and 75mm Summicrons.  Still waiting for a wide Leica prime 21 in particular and likely will add the Lumix 70-200 2.8 eventually, but I have to either go to the gym or hire and assistant first. I don't find my M-glass all that useful on the SL2.

SL 24-90, Sl 90-280 and SL 75 (never liked 75 frame lines on my Ms).  M lenses (28/35/50) stay on my Ms. This accommodates a wide range of shooting/carrying options....if only I could freely go out shooting again.

The L mount is my working and travelling system, so what I carry varies. My kit consists of:

2 SL bodies, 2 S1R bodies, 1 SL2 body.

SL16-35, SL24-90, SL90-280, SL50 1.4, SL50 f2, SL90f2

Sigma 14-24, Sigma 105 1.4, Lumix 70-200 f4

Canon TSE17, TSE24, TSE50, TSE90, MPE65, 8-15mm fisheye.

I use a Q2 as my 28mm solution.

I will add the new 100-400 when it becomes available, for travel use. I'll probably sell off the 70-200.

I rarely adapt anymore and the only lenses that get onto the SL2 are the M90macro and CV50mm 1.2.

So you bought both the SL 50mm - interesting! The 1.4 goes at really good prices second hand so I am often tempted despite the size. But my rational side says No. So far.

Inintended to sell the 1.4 when I bought the f2. I have decided to keep both as they’re a bit different and I like them both. 50’s are a weakness. I have more than too many.

SL 24-90, SL 90-280

Sigma 14-24

SL 35 Summicron, SL50 Summicron, SL 90 Summicron

Panasonic Lumix 24-105

Canon 24 TS-E

The 24-105 stays "glued" to the SL2. I may sell the three Summicrons and the Canon tilt-shift because they just don't used. The 14-24 is an underrated jewel, IMHO.

Given your use of the Lumix, what purpose does the SL 24-90 serve?

SL + APO 50 SL, M 35/1.4 FLE, Nocti f/1, Canon 0.95, Lux 75/1.4,  Zeiss 100/2, Zeiss 35-70/3.4.

The rest of 35/50 M lenses stay with M body, they are too small for SL

I know VE 24-90 is great, but worried when I get it, it will make all other lenses obsolete, so as my feet...

I've had my SL(601) for nearly 4 years. I already had a R100mm ROM f2.8 macro +1:1 Elpro, R180mm ROM f2.8, R280mm ROM f4 + 2x ROM converter from DMR days and an M WATE when I had an M8.  I bought the 24-90 at the same time as the SL body along with  R-L and  M-L adapters.  The 24-90 L gets most use by far.  Two years ago I bought a 90-280 L which I use mainly for wildlife photography.  It's a cracking lens and I can crop in quite successfully except for birds that are far away!  I use the 100mm macro for shots when the 24 -90 can't get close enough;  and the WATE when I want really wide angle shots. The R 180 was not being used and is now sold.  I kept the R280 + 2x converter which have both had little use thinking when I have a need for greater telephoto work...    but they're sitting in the cupboard!!!  I'll be putting them up for sale soon. (If anyone is interested please send me a pm)

Take care at this terrible time,

Graeme

I need to gain confidence in the 24-90 by using it more. It's a relative newcomer to the kit. Could it displace the 24-105? TBD

Hi, I have the Panasonic 16-35 and I like a lot, is the 24-105 is also a good lens ? Thanks

The Panasonic Lumix 24-105mm is indeed a good lens. It's a good all-purpose lens - landscapes, people, walk-around. If you can try one (before buying), I'd recommend checking it out.

Mine are all R lenses with R - L adapter: 21-35 rom, 28-90 rom, 28/2.8 SA PC, 50/2 rom, 90/2 apo rom, 100/2.8 macro rom + dedicated elpro, 180/2.8 apo rom, 280/4 apo rom, 2x apo rom extender, and an old three cam 135/2.8. All the ones I have tried seem to work very well with the SL2, but it's still very early days in present circumstances.

Quite an ensemble there! Plus for the 100/2.8 macro and 280/4 apo!

Bought them over a seventeen year period. The overwhelming majority were either second-hand or Leica "ex-demo" stock.

I'm a bit envious but well done you 🙂 Stefan Daniel was always adamant there would one day be a compatible solution so, some time before the SL 601 materialised, I did take a good look. But even then the better R-lenses seemed fairly expensive. While they might be good value in a certain sense it still seemed a bit of a leap of faith. In hindsight, well ... 🙂
