bherman01545 Posted June 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello; I just picked up a used Leica Macro Adapter M 14652 to try on my Leica M10. I currently own M lenses from 28-90mm. I'm thinking about using the Macro Adapter with my 50 F2 Summicron or 90mm F2 APO ASPH lens, but now I'm wondering if I should have just picked up one of the older 55mm Elpro Close-up lenses (designed for the R series?) Is the Elpro an Achromatic two element lens? I know that the Macro Adapter is essentially a variable extension tube with no glass, but I'm wondering which option would give me the best results and perhaps be less 'fiddly'? Pros/cons of each? Thanks! -Brad

a.noctilux Posted June 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2020 Hello Brad, if you use your M10 with Visoflex 020, the two devices can give more or less acceptable results in close-up. Elpros are two-elements achromats and when used with 90mm "average" lens can be a good choice. As you have the macro-adapter-M, just try with your lenses. I use the two types for years, and I have not yet know which is "better", just two "tools" to play with and take time to know how, as usual.
bherman01545 Posted June 14, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 14, 2020 Thank-you for your response. The reason why I'm asking is because although I got a great deal on the Macro Adapter M, it is still hundreds of dollars more than a good, used Elpro. Yes, the Macro Adapter may be more fun as it's variable and is more universal than a 55mm screw-in Elpro, but will not use it often, hence my thoughts about whether or not I should have gotten the Elpro now. For Example the Apo Elmarit R 100 works best with the special Elpro which was designed for it. I think You are in a good position to try it out because You allready have an adapter and an Elpro. My guess is that the Elpro will work best with the lenses they were designed for. For the M-lenses I would prefer the Macro Adapter with a one stop closing f-stop. Will be an interesting test. please keep us informed. br Wolfram
mmx_2 Posted June 15, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 15, 2020 OUFRO is always a good option, I much prefer that option compared to attachment lenses like ELPRO. The current macro adaptor, 14652, is really good since it has variable magnification, but’s a bit pricey. The Elpro for the Apo-Macro elmarit is a completely different story, but this one only works on the Macro Elmarit.
bherman01545 Posted June 15, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted June 15, 2020 Luckily, I got mine for approx. -60% off retail, like new in the box, so even if I decide that I don't like it, I can unload it easily (:-)
